He'll be missed by WHO for lines like that?

Not to speak ill of the dead and Jerry had a few funny moments in the Smokey movies and a couple of hit records but "one of the greats"? "Great" at WHAT?

C'mon, great? Rest in Peace guy, you entertained some people for a bit.

bivenator 09-02-2008 02:03 PM

puttin the pedal to the metal c'mon 10-4

http://www.merchantsofmoonshine.com/flashindex.htm (listen to the intro, for a bit of East bound and down...don't click enter or you will miss it)

The intro to my brother's band web site for all you Smokey & the Bandit closet fans :D

I can assure you that if you knew my brother's background, you would be as suprised as I am that he "went country" several years after moving to California to initially work in Hollywood.:D

The somewhat sad thing is that most of us know who these folks are, including (probably) Paul Newman. They are dropping like the proverbial flies.

OTOH, for most of the post MTV world, they have no clue why this BBS would even mention someone like Jerry Reed. In other words, we have largely become our parents....:(

Read craigster's initial post.

I guess Hendrix "entertained some people for a bit" also

Wonderful "down to Earth" guy, met him several times. Reminded me a bit of Chet Atkins in that when you met him, he was just "another guy", not a "legend in his own mind".

"Make it count, son"!

Tobra 09-02-2008 07:14 PM

He could flat play, even a hater would admit that unless they happen to be ignorant

I take it you never saw him play? He was more talented than 95% of anybody you would hear on radio today, of any genre.

And he was about as real and genuine as they come.

NICKG 09-03-2008 05:13 AM

the guy basically invented "the claw" style for playing..he picked with all his fingers rather than just one...his sound was totally different than anything prior or even since really
