PCA fire extinguisher regs?

I am getting my car ready to start doin some autocross in the spring. I remember reading somewhere that you had to have an extinguisher mounted within reach of the driver. I think this is a good idea anyway but I digress. Is there a specific size that is required and would a bracket that utilizes the seat bolts be acceptable. Does it need to be in front of the drivers seat or would behind the driver work or maybe in front of the passengers seat?

This is news to me.

Maybe for track driving.
Not autocross.

Hmm. Okay well put that aside then. Would the mount like i discussed be workable though. I think I have seen one somewhere for sale but I have the ability and tools to make one so why not? I think carrying a fire extinguisher in a car that is notorious for spontaneous combustion is just a good idea.

I have one in my car mounted under the driver's seat on the floor, right in front of the sub-belt mounting eyelet.

In my 87 I had one mounted on the tranny access cover plate.

I would have to go right in front of the seat as the 944 seats are soo low and mine has all that power junk underneath it.

A 2.5 lb fire extinguisher is required for DE events. A 2.5 lb extinguisher is as powerful as a fart in a hurricane for putting out a car fire.

If you do see smoke or fire coming from your car, drive to the nearest flag station and bail out of the car. Let the flagger with the 50 lb extinguisher put the fire out.
