eBay forcing me to accept PayPal.
 

Screw it; I'm out.

I am officially done with eBay selling.

I have a rare Hot Wheels I wanted to make a quick buck on but I do not like PayPal, I don't trust it and I do not feel like paying whatever percentage of my selling fee they want to charge me (~3%).

eBay also states that you can't discourage payment types. I have never and will never accept PayPal - I would have to associate it with a bank account and accept their fees as well as eBay's fees.

Screw it.

Just another financcial business that has to charge something to make profit. Whether you purchase a cashiers check at your bank or the local Seven Eleven they charge a fee.

Personally I've done lots of Ebay transactions using Paypal. Saves a lot of time. I guess it depends what your times worth.

I agree with mikester. By the time you pay ebay's and paypal's costs. You've lost ~10% of what you were selling.

I had perfect score with ~60 sales and they said I don't have enough sales history, so I must use Paypal to sell. Did that two years ago on a trial and lost $400 when they reversed the transaction after the buyer received the product and then said it was fraudulent use of his credit card. They would do nothing for me. And the buyer had been certified by them. I have moved over to craigslist.

eBay is going to limit payment to PayPal usage only. Also, as a seller, you can no longer post anything but positive feedback for buyers. Also, eBay, is setting the maximum shipping charges that a seller can charge, by the class or category, of whatever the item type is. All of these new "rules" suck!

Why has nobody come up with an alternative to FeeBay yet? There are lots of problems with their model and virtually everyone seems to just tolerate it - nobody really likes it. Why hasn't this opened the door to a competitor yet?

just state in the auction that you do not take paypal...i take paypal up to 100...after that it is postal money order only..you can restrict payment types still

There are. My fav is gunbroker.com (they have alternate URLs as well like "forthehunt.com"). No listing fees for basic listings (color, etc. in titles costs a little) and they only charge you when you sell an item. Also, anything legal is OK to auction, unlike eBay's policies...

I look at it this way.

Ebay has provided me with a way to sell something that in most cases I would never have sold before or even been able to. They offer an audience of 50m++, so I really don’t care if I have to pay a small charge to PayPal.

Actually, I am at the other end of the spectrum, I state that I ONLY take PayPal.

eBay has consistently raised fees over the years, weakened recourse for sellers, and limited the scope of what items it deems permissable to further its political agenda.

I've sold my share on Ebay and yes, their new policies are worse for the consumer then they where initially....but....it's their company and there business so what are you going to do? You can either find another way or keep using them. I think Yahoo has auctions also. Paypal really effects the seller. As long as you make sure the price your selling incorporates the added cost, your still good. There is nothing out there that is even close to generating the business they do, at least at this point.

They're just the established player - the "Microsoft" of the online auction world to use an analogy. Big, entrenched but hopelessly stodgy and unable to get out of their own way.

Sooner or later a "Google" is going to come onto the scene and do all the right things, addressing (and fixing) everything the public-at-large can't stand about "Microsoft". They will enjoy wild popularity and a surge to prominence that will eventually rival the old giant.

Sounds like a good business model for someone here who's enterprising...

Frankly I'm surprised it's taken this long.

I'll go with that, but I also offer discounts for cash within 5 days on many of my sales. At the end of the day, it's a buzz to sell rather than chuck it away, and netting 90% is better than being left with nothing.
