I've been using Chrome since yesterday. Using it right now... pretty fast!

I just downloaded it. Seems really fast but for some reason the scroll on my touch pad is super sensitive and will only scroll down now.

It lets me properly upload a picture, which IE 7 will not.

From the people who brought you Google toolbar and monitor everything you go to....I don't think so. As well if you don't setup the security just right it can monitor EVERY keystroke entered....yeah pass!

That will be the main target for all trojan and viruses... just imagine a brand new code, no security fixes..
No thanks...

It does that so you can crash a tab/window without bringing down the whole browser app.

Mac and Linux folks have to wait a bit to get our go at it. :(

But, Chrome is built on Apple's Safari WebKit application framework, FWIW.

WebKit is comprised of WebCore (based on KHTML engine) and
JavaScriptCore (based on KJS). Both of which came from Konquerer. Google can keep it, I'll never run it.

Update to Google Chrome's terms of service

9/04/2008 11:22:00 AM
Whenever we release a product in beta as we just did with Google Chrome, we can always count on our users to come up with ways to improve it. This week's example: several eagle-eyed users and bloggers have expressed concern that Section 11 of Google Chrome's terms of service attempts to give us rights to any user-generated content "submitted, posted or displayed on or through" the browser.

You'll notice if you look at our other products that many of them are governed by Section 11 of our Universal Terms of Service. This section is included because, under copyright law, Google needs what's called a "license" to display or transmit content. So to show a blog, we ask the user to give us a license to the blog's content. (The same goes for any other service where users can create content.) But in all these cases, the license is limited to providing the service. In Gmail, for example, the terms specifically disclaim our ownership right to Gmail content.

So for Google Chrome, only the first sentence of Section 11 should have applied. We're sorry we overlooked this, but we've fixed it now, and you can read the updated Google Chrome terms of service. If you're into the fine print, here's the revised text of Section 11:

11. Content license from you
11.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.
And that's all. Period. End of section.

It will take a little time to propagate this change through the 40+ languages in which Google Chrome is available, and to remove the language in the download versions. But rest assured that we're working quickly to fix this. The new terms will of course be retroactive, and will cover everyone who has downloaded Google Chrome since it was launched.

Google - do no evil. Yeah, right. One day soon, Microsoft will look like a big softie, and Google will be the arrogant SOB. Trouble is, Google's search share could just disappear overnight when the next big thing comes around. You can't replace Windows, but you can certainly use a different search engine with a stroke of a keyboard and mouse.

Google is much, much more than a search engine.

If you take a look at their work and development as a whole, from "data centres in a box", to their web applications and web services applications and toolkits, and their purchasing of dark fibre, I think they're working on something huge.

I would not be surprised if you found that they are the ones to eliminate the majority of home computers, by offering online applications via smart terminals for a low monthly rental rate. No more need to upgrade computers, operating systems, or even applications. No more worrying about viruses or malware or CCleaner crap. You just plug a keyboard, monitor, and mouse into their at-home "box", and it connects to a shared set of hardware in the local "data centre in a box" down the block, and you're off to the races. Basically what Sun has been trying to do for the Enterprise for years.

People that actually need their own computer are the minority... the vast majority of people just want to do email, surf the web, and do typical "Office" type stuff (word processing, spread sheets).

And Microsoft is doing a good enough job of ruining themselves, all by themselves.

Update to Google Chrome's terms of service

9/04/2008 11:22:00 AM

snip...

Ah, so that explains it. I installed chrome last night and after coming across many references to a strange EULA, I read the thing in its entirety and couldn't find anything wrong. I was reading it after they changed section 11. So all is good with that now.

I've been using Firefox for a few years now. I abandoned IE many years ago when I realized it was a POS. Firefox is awesome, but Chrome is even faster. I like the clean, uncluttered interface, and now most of my screen is dedicated to the browsing window, rather than cluttered with menus and toolbars. No google toolbar here, or any others, just a common bookmarks toolbar. Nice!
