Vin met up with me not to long ago as he was passing through town, and we had a blast, and at RRR, I got to meet Wayne and some of the other guys who work for PP, a few of them joined me at another club too;) Lets just say, they have a pretty good idea of how I get get some of the pix I get:D

What a coincidence! Everytime I get together with my friends from College Republicans all we can do is talk about Porsches.
:p

met some earlyS guys and was genuinely surprised at what a fantastic bunch they were. 30 seconds in to the event i thought 'i don't belong here'; by the next day i was about as at home as i could be. funny thing is they more or less are infrequent posters. i suspect there are some fantastic characters out there who RARELY post and am sorry that i won't get to meet them all.

truthfully i have met several 'pca type' porsche guys that were stunningly boring. i mean coma inducing boring. they were, more or less, non-pelican types. these guys fit a very specific demographic (early to mid 50's, moderately succesful salesman, check writers aka non-DIY, as likely to watch golf on tv as they are a good race, never heard of David Hobbs or Alain Decadanet, get glassy eyed when you talk about nailing it on the 2-3 upshift on the on-ramp....etc. etc). no soul at all...blah! i enjoy people that get excited about something; anything! i used to think of these folks as wine and cheesers but nowadays if somebody starts talking wine i perk up!

make every effort to meet any Pelican possible but times just don't seem to work out. i have no doubt 98% of you guys are fantastic. even the best man on this forum can learn something from the worst.

Why did you have to mention on ramp, now there was a hump I could go w/o meeting!

berettafan 09-08-2008 03:52 AM

sorry 'bout that; as i recall he did seem to stir the pot a bit!

it's truly a bummer that 'on ramp' is my license plate....hopefully noone will confuse me with the character of the same name!

widgeon13 09-08-2008 04:44 AM

Cool license plate, I'm sure most here have forgotten about OR. I just have a long memory in some cases.:D

It's a lot easier to be a prick/tough guy sitting behind your keyboard, posting to a bunch of annonymous screen names. When you can put a face to the name, you're posting to someone you KNOW. It makes a big difference, and helps build mutual respect. I've only met a few Pelicans, but they are different to me because I feel I know them.

This made me think, how many of you really discuss politics with your friends? I have one that I regularly discuss politics with, mainly because he has a bachelor's in Poli-Sci, an MPA, and works in the KS state government. Talking to fellow Pelicans in person, I doubt it would even come up. Really, there's much more interesting stuff to discuss.:D

That's true. (And of course we have met). The internet is the place to discuss politics, IMO. I get it out of my system 100% here and have zero desire to ruin a perfectly nice real-life experience w/ this stuff. No one ever changes their mind anyways.

Just spent a weekend w/ a newlywed couple, (close friends), + a buddy of theirs from L.A. We were out at a bar and the guy from L.A. left the table for some reason and my friend, the bride, said "almost forget to tell you, don't bring up politics. (guy from L.A.) is a staunch Republican and he does not have a sense of humor about it." I told her that I get along fine w/ Republicans, but I'll honor her request just the same. :D

I began a 'people picture' thread last year about this time; I found it really cool to see pictures of all those who participated, to put faces to names. I've only been a participant on these forums for 1.5 years, but to this day when I read something from 'HardDrive' or '911 Rob' or 'Seahawk', I tend to remember them due to the pictures of their beautiful families, pets, homes, etc...I've included the link below.

Bad idea. I'm a really offensive person that you guys would immediately hate. I mean, you would immediately continue to hate me. Indeed, it would probably erupt into a fistfight. I am a truly despicable person. Rude. Overbearing. Abrasive. Best just stay away from me.

What a great point! Which is why I'll probably stop discussing politics on this board as I consider many here my (long distance) friends. SmileWavy

Ha Ha. Thanks for the heads up.

I've tried to meet Todd for a couple years now with no success. I also have the walls in my shop covered with pictures of several of you, mostly taken with a telephoto lens, but sometimes not.
