I hate my "Land Line" cordless phone
Wont hold a charge, sick of buying batteries at Radio Shack.
Help me, recommend some great brands Thanks for the input |
How old is the thing? After one battery it's time to pick up a major brand like a Sony (no matter who makes it).
|
Dump the land line completely and just use a cell phone.
|
My Panasonics have worked flawlessly, now on my 3rd set. 1st set was the 31 channel or whatever, lasted 4 years or so, then had the 900mhz, that lasted a good 4 years as well and now I'm using the 3.5ghz or something like that. Holds a charge for days, great range, very ergonomic.
milt's right. Once the battery is gone, it's time for a new phone. |

I would bail on the landline.

Cell phones suck, from an audio quality POV.
I really like my "RCA Cordless Phone 25110RE3 With Wireless Headset" |
Minkoff, I bought replacement cells for my Panasonic from this site:
http://www.all-battery.com/index.asp They didn't stock an exact replacement, so I bought 3 cells of the correct size and removed the connector off the bad battery pack, soldered the 3 cells together with the connector. The portable handset is on a Fax Machine, and I didn't want to replace the whole machine. |

No problems with audio quality on our cell phones over the past 3-4 years. My son's never had a land line and has relied entirely on his cell phone(s) for the past 9 years. More of our friends are dumping their land lines. I don't know why you're finding them unsuitable, Milt.

Cell phones have good audio? It's because you forget how clear phone calls used to be. There's a reason offices still use corded phones on the desks...you can clearly hear, all the time, every time. Even cordless phones are a bit wonky at times. |

Cellphones suck. |
I have tried at least 7 brands in my lifetime. The best quality, clear sound, no static, long range would be.................
P A N A S O N I C BTW, keep the landline. The phone company was right: after the Chino earthquake a few weeks ago, all (I mean ALL) cell phone services were dead; the landlines remained functional. |
I will never pay for a landline for personal use (outside possibility for business usage)

Another +1 for the landline too. Back in 2005 when Fla had the run of hurricanes, we noticed that our local cell tower went dead after 2 days with no power. The LL never failed and we even had DSL service. |
As a disclaimer, do not keep the landline except:
1. If you do not care about a backup system to contact your love ones. 2. If you do not have family members staying at home. 3. If you do not live in an apartment where you need a landline to 'buzz in" your visitors. :) |
1) My Cordless phone maker charges more than I paid for the phone to buy a replacement battery. So, buy your battery from: www.batterybarn.com
2) SKYPE!!!!!!!!! |

...although, there is that damn cellular delay, which should still be obvious. ...unless you are slow too.:cool: |
When our GE cordless died about a year ago, I did a fair amount of research online... including reading customer reviews of different manufacturers' phones on sites like Amazon, and ended up buying a Panasonic, and it's been great.
|
I have a Uniden cordless. It works great, no problems, and it must be 100 years old (maybe not 100, but many, many years old).
My cell phone gets really crappy reception in my house. |
I like my land line. When we had a minor earthquake a few weeks back all the cell circuits were "busy" for a couple hours. Land lines had zero problems, and all calls went right through.
We have both uniden and panasonic cordless phones, and both work great. The Panasonic is 9 years old, and still going strong. I replaced the battery about 4-5 years ago. |
Panasonic. No others in my house. I really like a corded phone. It never drops calls and it always there. I have them in the office and various places in the house like the bathroom hidden in a resess box in the wall. I am with Milt, if clients call when I am home, I will usually call back on my land line. The one with a cord.

Buy yourself a Bang & Olufsen. It will last you years, transmission is crystal clear, they look better than any other phone out there, and they're cheap as chips in the US.

I never knew B&O made phones!
We have a set of Unidens, it's ok, but I wouldn't buy again. We don't have the traditional land line, but Vonage instead. Our land line was often over $100/mo with long distance, Vonage is the same $30/mo, every month. Good quality and reliable. |
I guess it's SoCal then. Really, beyond the delay, I just don't get the clarity that some of you apparently do. Most of the time the transmission is clipped and parts of words or even sentences are missing.
On another tone, I still use a corded phone in my office for privacy . |
