Anyway

Ford Aerostar minivan-

Here's a question: Ford minivan, and when I drive it on the interstate at high speeds....when I run down the off-ramp I feel the automatic transmission shifting VERY hard. It downshifts very hard, and when I come to a stop, if I shut the engine off for a few seconds, then start it right back up, the transmission doesn't do it at all. If I shut the engine down, then the car drives to the house normally.

The hard shifts? These feel hard enough to break parts inside the transmission- that's why I ask.

The transmission in question was used on millions of Ford Aerostars and Explorers.

This van is a ROCK! I had some radiator problems when I first bought it 6 years old used in 2003 for $3k [huge bargain], but it still runs perfect. The hard shifting after a trip on the interstate has me concerned is all. This hard shifting is getting worse and worse, and occurs now at lesser speeds. Something isn't right. Anyone know what it is?

Don't have much to say other than our old Aerostar was a rock!

That's not the sound of parts breaking, that's the sound of your luck getting laid driving an Aerostar. :)

Mechanically, Aerostar and the Explorer are Ranger pickups.

Friend had that happen on his Ranger, was not a huge deal, solenoid or something.

Mech said it was more likely to damage other drivetrain parts than the tranny.
