Lancia Delta

How bad of an idea would this be..?

Aside from parts availability being an issue, could this be legally run in the US?

Go watch the Top Gear episode where they drive across Zimbabwe. You'll be cured.

Embraer 09-10-2008 07:19 PM

it would be cool for like $2K

kstar 09-10-2008 07:25 PM

"Aside from parts availability"?

That's a huge "aside", IMO.

Many, many years ago I owned a Lancia Zagato and it was nearly impossible to get parts . . . and the car was almost new.

I don't know about putting it on the road legally though.

FWIW.

Looks kind of like a GTI... kind of cool!

Britwrench 09-10-2008 07:50 PM

In the UK we used to call them "Disintegrale".
However, I think they are great, good driving and fast sports hatch.
You will need someone who know how to fix them and parts availability.

TGTIW 09-11-2008 12:04 PM

A pipe dream I suppose. But I think it would be a fun, and most likely, consuming, project car.

svandamme 09-11-2008 01:39 PM

the integrale was scorchingly fast.. dad owned one for a short while
it was the car he had bought to wean himself off competition rally driving
stupid fast, but these days, parts, they probably have more NLA parts on that one single model , then Porsche has in it's entire model range since the 911 came out...
oh, and it's Italian, so fix part X now, and chances are, you'll fix the exact same thing real soon

they had one on Wheeler Dealers, it's a show on discovery about buying old "classics" , fixing up and flipping them for a profit..
complained about having to take off the suspension to replace the alternator

Years ago I had a Delta HF Turbo and to this day I think that was one of the best handling hot hatches I've ever driven. Shame it had an A/C that almost burned the car to the ground...

It wasn't the first Lancia I owned. I had a Beta Spider (I loved that car!) which was just a complete nightmare for parts. New parts were not available and finding used parts was extremely difficult. And that was when that car was only about 12 years old.

M.D. Holloway 09-11-2008 02:48 PM

Not sure what you all see in that car - even if it handles like a high price ho and is just as fast, it still looks like azz IMO.

TGTIW 09-11-2008 02:55 PM

That's kind of the appeal. A brutally ugly, but highly capable car.
Just like Subaru Sti's, Audi Quattros, 959s, etc..

You're going to have problems getting that across the border (although there are creative and slightly illegal ways of doing it .... ). Better to look for an older version. Once they're 25 years old, they can be brought in with no conversion.

The Integrale is a fantastic car and on my short list. A true homologation special. Take a look here:

Another one for sale at a slightly higher price - $250,000.

Awesome, legendary cars. But probably a nightmare to own.
