Porsche considering modern day 914.
I don't know how credible the source is, but this could be a great idea.

Wasn't that what the Boxster was intended to do?
|
Better idea than a pananmera.
|
Its called an Audi TT.
|
i would certainly think about getting a new version. this time though, i would want the six.
i had a '71 and a '76. loved them both. |
I won't get my hopes up until it makes it to sheetmetal.
|
If they try to build it on a golf chassis, there will be blood.
|
I love those vintage pics. Reminds me of Green Kool-aid.

The 914 boosted sales in the 70's and so did the Boxster in the late 90's and beyond. They need a VERY affordable entry level car to stay afloat this time... KT |
The problem with doing a teener-type car is getting the aero right so that the performance is Porsche-like. By the time you do that, you'll end up with a car that looks like the Boxster. ;)

I also remember when the 914 came out and I thought....I want one of those. Hmmm, I have one now but it's not quite as nice as the one in the photo. |
like that green.
914? try here: http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080806/FREE/722021876 |
like that hair.

I like the idea of a 2.4 l flat four with Elise type weight but without the ingress/egress issues
|
Maybe they can fix that rust problem this time...

I keep hearing rumors they may take the new Scirocco and rebadge it as a Porsche. Something just doesn't sit well with me regarding a front wheel drive Porsche though. Maybe if they made it rear drive for both companies. Although there is supposed to be an all-wheel drive version of it as well. I guess I can live with all-wheel drive.
However the VW version will probably be $35K, so the Porsche version will be more like $45K. I think the target needs to be about $35K. Heck if the CaymanS was more like $45K I would probably be driving one. I just can't see shelling out $70K for a car that is going to loose 50% of it's value in 2 years..........$35K is a lot of money to piss away. To me anyway. |
I thought the Boxster was the successor to the 968? I think this is to compete on sub compact sports car market with the Elise, MR2 Spyder, Solstice etc...?
|
If they could make a small 2 seater, Under 2800 pounds, with boxer 4 cyc, 2 trunks, fuel milage in the 30's, HP in the 150+ range...
If they could get the cost to 20G, an I fit, I know I'd be looking at them. |
I started a thread about this last week in the Boxster/Cayman forum. My brotherjust bought a Cayenne and while he was at the dealership, a salesman told him the rumor is Porsche AG will discontinue the Boxster and Panamera and work on a Cayman Targa. Some of this is stupid like getting rid of the Boxster when that car kept Porsche afloat for so many years but a Cayman Targa would be cool. I would buy one.
