I have owned a few diesels in the past & liked them, but with Audi winning big races with their new tech, clean & quiet, after driving a buddies diesel Excussion with a chip & over 20 MPG, I would buy another:D

one thing people dont think about, is the disposal or recycling of these hybrid batteries is going to take alot of energy. eventually the batteries will go bad or the cars will get into accidents. another thing is, the styling of the hybrids is ugly! haha! at least the european diesels look good! :D

"Diesel is also better environmentally..."
-only true in certain ways; worse env'ly in other ways that will change in the future however |

That is unless such a fee already exists... |
I would go diesel over hybrid personally. When I did a personal cost analysis based on - miles driven/car cost/fuel cost the results were 1 - high mileage gasoline car, 2 - diesel car, close 3rd - hybrid. I like the idea of diesel but I have two problems with the current VW offerings. One - they don't get nearly as good of mileage as the older diesel VWs. Two - made in Mexico. The MB is not exactly an economy car, nor are the new BMW diesels (stae side. Don't get me going on euro cars not available here:mad:). The fuel taxes are crazy high on diesel as well and considering neither candidate has mentioned reducing that, I would expect no change.
My diesel/hybrid fanatic group of friends are awaiting the next gen Prius which they claim will get 80 MPG. That would certainly move it into first place on my list unless they charge an inordinate amount of $$. That said, I still don't like the idea of having to dispose of that battery! |
