"Sent from my..."

Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry, or Sent from my iPhone, or "sent from my...." whatever the hell it may be. Do we really need to be inundated with advertising at this level? I don't own either, but for those of you that do, is there any way to turn that off?

id10t 09-12-2008 10:57 AM

Sent by telnetting to port 80 and issuing get/post commands

:)

nice

I think people do that, so you will understand why the reply to your email is 2 lines long and garbled with typos. JMHO,

George

Jeff,

There is...but I don't have a BB since I left the Navy so I can't go find out how I did it.

I turned mine off...I think it is in the email settings, under signature.

I just know you can.

kstar 09-12-2008 11:05 AM

Agree with George.

Jeff: If I turn that off for you, is there anything else I can do to make my presence more pleasant to you personally? "We" would all like to please you :D

Exactly. I often type 1 or 2 word answers.

I don't want anyone to know if I've answered an e-mail from my desk, or from my phone/pda while on the golf course... :)

Exactly. One of the first things I did when I set up my iPhone....

That's the only advantage of always being connected - you don't always have to be in your office...

You're probably the wrong gender, deducing from your name...

Yup. Automatic on mine. I never bothered to turn it off.

How sexist of you to assume I'm a man!

My Daddy named me Kurt to make me a tough woman. :)

At first I thought this was just a show-off thing, but when I got a BB, I realized it's actually quite a PITA to shut off. Mine had a "sent from my blackberry on the Telus network" default signature, which I hated. To shut it off, you have to set up an online profile, open the phone to get the serial #, then manually go in and shut it off. And you can't do it from the BB, has to be done from a desktop. Not a big deal for someone who understands tech stuff like me, but I can see it being too much for someone who isn't used to it, so they might just leave it.

Interesting. I'm not all that computer literate myself, so I would probably never figure that out. My approach would be to bring it back to wherever I bought it and tell them to turn the goddamn advertising off, or keep the goddamn thing. Their choice.

Palum6o 09-12-2008 12:41 PM

I thought you could just do it while its plugged into the computer via the BB desktop manager, no?

Christien 09-12-2008 01:14 PM

I don't think so, but don't quote me on that. I couldn't find anything in the BB documentation, because it's service-provider-set, so I just went to the crackberry forums and found the solution there.

Paul T 09-12-2008 01:17 PM

On my BB under email options, email settings you can go into "use auto signature" and turn it on or off and set it to say whatever you like.

I have it off so nobody can tell where I'm responding from, but there are times I do like it there to serve as an excuse for short, mis-spelled messages.

Exactly, in fact mine is lengthened to include ....so please excuse the typos

nostatic 09-12-2008 02:38 PM

easy to remove or change on the iphone. I changed mine to just say, "excuse brevity, sent from phone".

email is critical to my work, and I need people to know that I'm not being "short" with them.
