DVC in Concord is one of the better community Colleges in the area. My son has a quite HS classmates going there. I thought that if kids get into the program to automatically xfer to a UC or CSU upon graduation, they'd have to sign a contract to maintain a very high GPA. If that is the case, I think the CC route can be rigorous enough.

Do the CC route for sure. I'm at UC Davis after transferring last year.

Mr Puff, which CC did you attend? How was the instruction and did you feel like it was just an extension of HS?

I don't know much about DVC, but DVI worked well for me and, if it's good enough for me, it's good enough for my boys.

Update. Just got back from a weekend orientation for prospective students at the University of Oregon. Well organized and informative. Perfect weather!

My son is really enthusiastic about U.of Oregon. We made the hike from campus over the Willamette river to Autzen stadium. We went inside Hayward field. We strolled along Pre's trail.

We're not finished exploring, but it was good to see my son excited about a university. Anyway, here are some photos;

Good for you guys. I'm about 9-10 years away from that stage, but I know it will come quick.

Note to self: fit in visit w/school dance team during campus visits

Business building is chock full o' solar cells - see the dark "blinds"?

You can't tell from the picture but there were a few thousand of us in the stands. The dance team was very good. Sitting in front of us was a conservative looking couple with a scowling daughter. She had really awful white-girl dreads that were partially dyed purple and green. She had pierced eyebrows, nose, lips... looked like she should be working the counter at Starbucks in Berkeley. She muttered that she was disgusted when the dancers took the floor.

Bet her parents can't wait to get her off to college.

Maybe this is that girl in 5-10 years (and the dancers, for that matter)

I can tell you the U of O track team runs in the rain.

That is what my HS coach told us when he sent us out in the rain

RWebb 10-27-2008 10:27 PM

well, sure you'd have to

also that rasta-purple haired daughter moses mentioned could easily be on the track team...

I dunno. I have known people lose momentum and get "stuck" in CC. I have a good friend from another high school, and right now he is kicking around CC's still down near L.A. Meanwhile, I will graduate next year...he probably will be just starting his 4-year career, if he does. And he was a smart kid. Just never quite did the SAT-II's.

I did take one Computer Science class at a CC..Laney in Oakland. It was not quite as hard as the same class here at Cal, but it still chafed my a$$ pretty well. I wouldn't necessarily bet on getting A's and all that. It is cheaper, but to really just get some 'insurance,' I would try to go to a 4-year school right off the bat.

That looks to be a beautiful campus, wow!

RWebb 01-12-2011 03:14 PM

Let me just dispel once and for all those ugly rumors about corporate sponsorship.
