Or fly out and find out that it's not at all the quality represented in the listing. I would never buy a car without driving it first and taking it to a top notch tech for a close once-over.

Speeder you are right, I'm not looking for the "Holy Grail"

As to eBay my problem here is there are so many "flippers" it is hard to separate "the fly***** form the pepper" in the amount of time given on most eBay listings. I don't want to buy something sight unseen and unless there is someone who can eyeball the car for me it becomes more difficult. I have attempted to deal with a fer eBayers and most were hesitant to allow a PPI while the listing was active and they were even more hesitant that i make a PPI part of the final deal. I have sold cars on eBay and was more than willing to accommodate any inspection request a buyer had, maybe I am just too honest and have no worries as to what I am selling.

I guess this is the old adage that when you have money you can't spend it and when you are short thaer is plenty to seond you money on. I don't want to go years in the search, I wanted to buy something to enjoy this summer and now that is gone and I am looking for something to work on over the winter, we'll see what happens.

I might just pull my son's 944 in the empty slot in the garage and work on it over the winter for something to do if I don't come up with a 911 soon. Then I'll jump back in the hunt in the early spring (I know you guys in the south and west can't relate to this but winter does shut things down here for 5 months form November to April!)

This has just been very frustrating and it is to the point my wife is losing her enthusiasm for the project.

Not at all. I just think price wise you are setting your dollar amount too low. I think if you upped your buy price in the $13K-$17k you would find any number of people on here and in the ads willing to sell you a nice car.

$13-15K is within reason but it has seemed that things are either low at $12K or high at $18-22K. I don't want something all done and ready to go which is the $18+ but I am also not going to overpay for the car that is really worth the $12-13K either.

Stutzdriver - I have a 78 targa that I'm thinking of selling. I live about 50 miles south of Strongsville. Let me know if you might be interested and we can talk.
