Mac guys - need help with Adobe - converting video

In a strange twist of events I am going to attempt to use PPOT the help me become more productive at work.

Long story short... supervisor requisitioned a Mac to do video editing... being a butthead he didn't show anyone else in the department how to work with the software... he left.

Now we need to convert some .MOV files to .MPG files to play on a solid state video player.

I'm sure he was using one of these Adobe programs to to the converting that are on the Mac (all have Adobe CS3 in the title).
Soundbooth
Premiere pro
InDesign
Flash
Encore
Bridge
After effects
Dreamweaver (for desinging websites?)
I have used these for editing still pictures:
Photoshop
Illustrator

Acrobat profesional is also on teh Mac but I presume it is for documents?

Thanks in advance, I'll check back later... I'm off to install some MR16 transformers...THAT I KNOW HOW TO DO!

It's all about codecs, none of that SW will help without the proper codecs

Get mpeg streamclip from http://www.squared5.com/

It's free

PM with number sent

call me

Check if the machine has Quicktime Pro on it.

That's all you'd need and Pro installs additional codecs as well

The guy who was working on this Mac has .MOV and .MPG files on the computer, doesn't that mean the codecs are already there?

Looked at premiere pro, lots of neat features but all I want to do is convert a .MOV to a .MPG, I don't even need audio on these clips, heck I may not even need the Mac.

I'm starting to thing the Adobe stuff is way overkill for what I need to do.

Matter of fact there is a laptop that that has the software to do the conversion for me... that is on the east coast with a co-worker.

Open the .mov file using Quicktime. Under "File" choose "Export". Use the pulldown menu and see if there is a Quicktime movie to mpg option.
