Outlook 2007 and AOL Help PLEASE !
Ok Outlook gurus,
I''m running Outlook 2007 (Vista SP1) and one of my email accounts is an aol account. I'm using it with Outlook as a POP3 account. Intermitently (a lot lately) it will not send the messages and I get a 554 Transaction Failed error. I'm using incoming port 995 (POP) and outgoing port 587 (SMTP) These have been confirmed by the generally useless AOL tech support. What now??????? |
AOL? Its 08 not 98

Use hotmail or gmail and be rid of your troubles.

I know... I have 8 email accounts (only 1 from AOL ;) ) and use Outlook to monitor all of them (business, personal, cars, ...). My Aol has been out there for ages and all my clients have used that one since the verly early 90's, can't afford to loose it.

Gmail - forget outlook. It will monitor all 8 email addy's and is accessible from any computer. Has a calendar association as well. Very nice piece of software.

Weird, according to the log it apparently is a problem identifying an "image puzzle".
Went to MS adn found that if you log into mail.aol.com and send an email from there, that apparently corrects the image puzzle issue and its working again....... AOL is a black box. |
You should still try Gmail - you may like it. There is a Firefox add-on called Gmail notifier which works well for monitoring various email accounts and keeps them all separate and organized.

Thanks for the tip Randy. I only used GMAIL to monitor my gmail account before I migrated it to Outlook. I'll check it out for the others.
