Ducati handlebars hitting the tank.

M-kay, for guy about to buy a Ducati, this may seem like an embarrassingly stupid question, but why can the bars hit the tank? Shouldn't there be stops of some kind that prevent this? We had a bunch of bikes at our house when I was younger, many of which got dumped, and I don't ever recall a dented tank.

Edumacate me.

The fact that I am an idiot with checkbook is a foregone conclusion, so lets move on, shall we?

Both my Multistrada and ST2 had stops. They are bolts on the forks that are adjustable and hit stop tabs on the frame. Not sure about the Monster though. On the ST2 I had to adjust them out when I added the bar risers as the master cylinder would touch at full lock.

Many Monsters have tank dings - very common "feature." Go to ducatimonsterworldwide.org and you'll get a quick answer.

Dear Idiot with a checkbook,

There are stops on the triple clamps, but if an owner rotated the handle bars or clip-ons so that their angle is beyond stock or beyond the stops, the bars will hit the tank. Make sense?

Um, bars shouldn't hit the tank. They don't on my bike, at least. There should be stops. However, the stops are known to be somewhat flimsy, as you can see on a lot of Monsters.

Don't buy the Ducati (like your wife wants), then you won't have to worry about the tank.

BTW: are you going to ride when it is raining/wet?
