What $38 million gets you in Tennessee

Taken from another forum. Alan Jackson's home is up for sale, he's got a few cars (no P-car though).

Why does anyone need a house like that? I would never feel "at home" in there.

for 38 million, i'de want something that doesn't look like that at all.
Just shows that being rich does not equate to having good taste.

If i won the lottery, i'de google the internet for lot's of pictures of house just like that,
then i'de show em to my architect, and ask him what he thinks.
If he doesn't tell me flat out "sorry, you need another architect, i don't do that kind of ****",
then i will tell him, "sorry, i need another architect, one that doesn't do that kind of ****"

Prices must have gone up in TN, at one time you could have bought the whole state for that much money and have WV thrown in as part of the deal.

I agree. I actually think the style and architecture are very nice. You also have to keep in mind that all of these rooms are not in a single structure, you are buying a compound with a main house, garages, guest house, boat house, hoarse stables, and who knows what else.

I like the pad but I wouldn't want to manage the staff it would require for upkeep.

Yep can you imagine the taxes, insurance , electricity, heating, cleaning, and gardening bills that come in EVERY month on that place...he must spend more time away from home then being at home just to pay for it all.

The lawn is 30 beers size. I would wreck the mower before I was even a tenth done.

that much grass serves no purpose if you ain't got the horses to graze on it.

And another thing. what kind of a bonehead puts a tree right in front of the garage, how the hell are you supposed to do a crazy angry burnout leaving the garage when you're pissed off from the nagging she's been doing all day?

it looks cheap and tacky
I've been to nicer mansions then that one, maybe not bigger, but size ain't a defining factor of "style", then again, it might be if yer on the short list of MTV cribs.

Cheap and tacky? Are you looking at the right page? It looks like a typical southern plantation estate to me......

bit bulky for a typical southern plantation house, no?
They didn't build em like that 100 something years ago, or did they?

And as far as the interior, not sure if they used a hotel decorator, or the one that did the bunny ranch...

For that kind of money, i'de want something that blends with the environment, inside and outside. Something that has character on it's own.

Not something that stands out like an unpopped zit. I'de like to see clean lines, balance of everything rather then a geometrical block of function and "look at me , i'm big"
Like that BBQ deck/stove in the middel of nowhere... Seriously... they figured, the tree needs something extra, let's put a bigass ugly BBQ fire and a deck next to it... it'll be better that way?

I think it's cool he felt the need to build a basement mancave.

And the boathouse is cool!
