Question for Australians. Urgent.
I have niece in Australia. A person (former roomate) opened an account of some kind in her name and withdrew a couple thousand dollars. She caught it and the account was closed. Because the person was known to her family, she did not file a police report. He knows that she knows.
We are hoping that this is as far as it has went, but how to do we know? Do you have credit rating agencys in Australia that can show all credit/banking accounts for an individual based on their National ID #? We simply want to make sure this jerk has not done anything else. Second question, if an American citizen beats an Indian citizens face into a bloody ******** pulp in Melbourne, whats my best route to avoid prosecution? |

She should have made a formal complaint. Identity theft is an issue down here and it always takes ages and much aggravation to sort out. Debt collection companies pretend it never happens, and so your neice may find herself on the receiving end of their attention. We have no national identity system, like the American social security number, so there is no quick and easy way of finding out if the clown has undertaken other transactions in her name until she starts getting the nasty phone calls.
If she fails to make a complaint, it's harder for her to argue she had no involvement in the scheme. As for the second question, try the usual stuff--dysfunctional childhood, parents didn't love you, learning disability, etc. That cr4p seems to impress the courts far more often than it should. |
BaycorpAdvantage is the holder of credit reference in Oz I believe. It's a record of your credit history, going back five years, detailing any loan enquiries or applications you've made, if there's been a default on a credit card or loan, a bankruptcy, even if you have an outstanding bill, etc. You can buy a copy of your credit reference from www.mycreditfile.com.au
Hope that helps |
