Targa Newfoundland 2008 Highlights

I saw part of this event on TV once and had the wife come into the room and watch for a while with me. I then asked her if she would ever want to do something like this (thinking it's a natural progression of a PCA run to see the fall colors- it's not). She turned to me and said that I would have to pre-decide to hold he harmless if we ended up in a ditch and not yell at her. Just then on TV a car went into a ditch and came just short of rolling over.

Would be fun, a fun idea but I'm guessing the reality is a bit more bitter.

I've been watching this event for the last couple years. One promise to myself (once the Corvair or the 356 is complete) is to participate in this. Probably the most beautiful country you can imagine and I've never heard a negative comment towards the people or the event.

Anyone see pics of the pelicanite who balled up their 914 last year, unfolded it and finished the race? Pretty impressive stuff.

Anyone who ever heads to this race would be pretty much driving by my house. Standing offer for beds, beer & bull$hit for anyone passing through.

Edit, found pic:

If you can get thru the 1st half's music, it's worth watching. The race of squirrels.

We won an entry for the 2009 Targa at the Mosport club race. I wonder how the 935 will do?

Targa New Zealand is at the end of October. I was going to join a team of friends to pit crew for a '77 924 with a 13B in it but work commitments have ended my ambitions.

I crewed with the same guys in 2005 for Targa NZ when the 924 had a stock engine with 300,000 kms on it. It finished the last day with a blown headgasket- it was still running strong!

A 944 crashed out halfway through and was mysteriously back the next day. A closer look showed its racing livery was vinyl, not paint! Their team had completely stripped everything out of it and transplanted into a new 944, vinyl stickered it, got it legal and accepted in one night!
