Va, NY, WV, Md wineries
Inspired by a recent visit to King Family Vineyards in Va. i visted a 'winefest' in my town this past weekend. I was truly surprised at how much i liked the Cab. Franc (and even the Chard) from King Family so i thought 'who knows what i'll find!'.
Well i guess i know what really bad wine is now. Some absolutely horrible stuff. I mean just nasty. Not 'bland, short finish, too much oak' bad but 'my god quick get me some water to rinse!' bad. One or two selections were 'ok' and i did buy a bottle of Reisling from Forks of Cheat Winery in WV that had an unusual tasting finish. It was otherwise a real bummer and much of the crowd was just a little too 'lets get drunk in this giant parking lot and pretend we're hippies in the 60's all over again'. not much less attractive than overweight single 40-somethings getting loaded on terrible wine and making out with some other lonely person in full view of the ROW. Interesting experience but not worth repeating. Maybe a much larger 'festival' with a better selection of wineries would be a good time. |
the finger lakes in new york are home to quite a few wineries, and very close to watkins glen.
come on up. |
i was sorry to see only 1 or 2 NY wineries as i understand they do some great wines. WG is on the 'to do' list for sure.

+1 on the NY wineries. very beauitful, especially in the fall. the wine? some great, some lousy....but the wineries are spaced about 5 minutes from each other in spots so its no biggie to winery-hop
my car in front of one on seneca lake last month http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222708095.jpg |
Bordy north of B-more puts on a good show w/ music and food summer weekends. Their wine is drinkable but nothing to brag about.
