It Is A Roll Of The Dice

It is a roll of the dice mther fker. Will the Congress pass the bail out? If they don't you will get to know and live two words real well GREAT DEPRESSION. You will be all in. Porsches will be going for $0.05 on the USD.

Let us try 25% unemployment. Let us try a collapse of the USD. THe banks allready are about half gone so that is no surprise.

Better invest in Gold cause that is gona be the only thing that is gona be worth anything.

Sorry to say the US government probably will not survive.

If they pass the Bill well it buys you all some time. Maybe 6month maybe a year.

Today a RE analyst said housing in CA is down 40%, what were Prime loans are going to be downgraded to junk as the the homeowner in some areas are now down 60% from the high. (700k>275K). So the foreclosures are going to be massive....700B into another 3T is going to be a spit in the bucket.

Also the world is faltering 5 Euro Banks were bailed out over the weekend.

Quiet frankily I don't see a way out...I don't have a path that makes me whole?????

I really hate to say this, but I have been talking about a Great Depression since 2002...go back into the archives of this Board. I said it was going to be a crisis of liquidity...and sure enough here it is.

I was wrong about one thing, I thought it would be an act of terrorism that brought it about. However maybe 911 set the stage for this because of the low interest rate environment that was necessary to keep the system going. Our Greed did the rest.....

"I don't see anything great about a Depression" Nancy Pelosi

WRONG! Spoons will be the new currency. You know, spoons?

The concept of gold being the only thing left of value has come up quite a bit recently. I used to think so, but I've changed my stance.

What is gold used for? Jewelry, and electronics. When society collapses, and we have 25%+ unemployment and no banks left in existence, who will want/need gold for jewelry or electronics? Will there be a secret underground society of people replating USB connectors to get the world electronic banking system back online?

Also, gold is heavy and kinda hard to carry. It's also very hard to cut up into change. Unless you prepare ahead of time, and melt it down in the basement into little bite sized pieces, we're going to have a lot of trouble using it as anything of value.

I'm going to stockpile hot pockets and batteries. THOSE things will be of immense value, and are relatively easy to carry around. And plastic grocery bags...when society fails, there will be no trash pickup, and people will desperately be looking for small grocery bags that can be tied shut to seal up waste.

Only if you find me and pay for my specially designed iPhone Protection Bags. They keep it safe from airborne allergens, zombie feces and randomly flying bullets.

No.

Turn it off now and head for the hills.

You all watched Pirates of the Caribbean what was it they were after...GOLD and Silver.

For thousands of years Gold and Silver have been used as a medium of exchange. The Spainards came to the new world and literally destroyed whole peoples and cultures for what....GOLD.

We shall see about SPOONS> luckily I do have a few real silver spoons tucked away.

tabs 09-29-2008 08:58 AM

I just hope it is blackest before DAWN...

The same has been done over ivory, spice, exotic wood, silk, wine, rum, sugar...yet no one is stockpiling those things.

Heck, cigarettes will be more valuable on the streets than gold. Think of prison, and what is considered valuable there. THAT is what your average large US city will be like when society collapses.

Dear Nostatus..Please send me there....

rammstein 09-29-2008 09:10 AM

Hmmm.... you need something that you can stockpile now, so it must be non-perishable. You need something that is valuable for survival, not just for entertainment or pizazz.

Items I can think of:
Coal
Alcohol
Livestock
Water Filters
Drugs (the medical kind, junkies won't have anything of value to trade anyhow)
Fruit-bearing trees

NICKG 09-29-2008 09:12 AM

as i said, I think interest rates will skyrocket in the next several months as lenders only lend at high rates even when you qualify for better rates...(already see that)

Porsche-O-Phile 09-29-2008 09:13 AM

I have plenty of ammo now.

I like the hotpocket idea best especially when you consider the fact that they would have a longer shelf life than Gold.

Yeah, but they're completely useless until the solar powered microwave oven is invented.

On the Missouri ballot this Nov. ...we are voting to build a LARGE-AZZ Wall.

It will encircle the entire state.

I saw the plans.

Lots of rocks, steel, watch towers, boiling vats (for oil), etc.

The moat is a option that may be voted down (it's an earmark I think?).

(We've been hearing/considering the 'Rug Doctors' wailings for years. So finally the fools decide to act!)

Think; 'GREAT WALL OF MISSOURI'.

You will probably be able to see it from space.

(Don't even think of invading once the chaos starts! Our cell phones, when thrown from atop the wall, will blot out the sun!) Ouch! :)

Edit: To all you gold/silver hoarders ... best to stockpile lots of salt/pepper/condiments ...to make that bullion easier to digest.:)

'Bon Appetit.'

bivenator 09-29-2008 10:11 AM

I think the wall is designed to keep ya'll in.

tabs 09-29-2008 11:59 AM

I can't believe they did it! The bottom has just dropped out for me, I am stunned. It is like passing through a wall of fear, and now your faced with here we are. What do we do next?

Gold at 915.00 OZ.....up about $35.00...on CNBC a rush to hard assets.

The Bond market is where the damage is.....

Palum6o 09-29-2008 12:06 PM

Can someone recommend a nice handgun for a beginner?

id10t 09-29-2008 12:14 PM

Palumbo - in philly? forget it... just about.

Otherwise, a good 357 revolver. If you won't be carrying, a 12 or 20 gauge shotgun, pump is best.

Palum6o 09-29-2008 12:24 PM

Didn't Paulie Walnuts have a Beretta? I'd like one like that.

tabs 09-29-2008 12:27 PM

Palumbo what kind do ya want....

Palum6o 09-29-2008 12:30 PM

I shot a target pistol once and loved the feel of it, not sure if it was an 87 or not, but it sure felt nice... What would provide a nice cost effective way of protection?

Spooning to get spoons to stay alive?

Man, the post-apocalyptic world just became a lot more creepy...
