Leaners, Leansters or Quasi-Trikes?
New trend or ticket to "shundom"?
I hear Harley might make one too (not the more traditional Trike they will release soon). http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222753716.jpg http://www.motorauthority.com/brudeli-announces-production-leanster-three-wheeler.html |
Why "shundom"? Makes perfect sense, physics-wise, no? MB. et al, has played with the concept:

Ghey.

Are you?

Nope.

I don't think Kurt is interested in homosexuals, latent or otherwise, hijacking his thread. |
I was told last year by someone in the business that older folks who find it difficult to ride a two-wheeler due to bad knees, hips, etc... will be buying these "trikes". Think there's any truth to that?

What about this:

Unless you are a former biker who due to injury can no longer ride a two-wheeler, trikers are GHEY. You want to talk "engineering"? Trikes have nearly all of the disadvantages of a motorcycle with none of the advantages, AND a few new cons added in for good measure: 1) Still invisible in traffic 2) Still miserably small contact patches, with the added bonus of being a statically stable format, instilling false confidence 3) Still no "occupant" protection 4) Power-to-weight ratio 1/2 that (or worse) of a bike 5) Reduced MPG due to increased coefficient of drag (and power-to-weight) 6) Larger footprint reduces maneuverability in traffic and increases required parking space 7) Even step-thru riders laugh at trikers 8) GHEY 9) DARISC likes them (but I repeat myself) |
How about a 4-wheeled motorcycle? Not ghey (or gay).

what's the point of a bike if you can't lean? (referring to that ugly arse HD training wheel thing).

My ignorance; just looked up ghey (thought it was webspeak for gay :(). Agree with 1 thru 8. As for 9., yeah, I think they're ghey :). If I'm correct, trike ATV's have been replaced by 4 wheel ATV's for safety reasons, no? Anyway - sorry. |

LOL. Thank you. I really need a laugh this morning. |

Now...back on point; trikes are GHEY! |
I think they are both gay and ghey. ;):D
|
Apology accepted, DARISC.
Though I must say I'm a little disappointed. I had some truly epic rejoinders at the ready. ;) |

I agree with the sentiments on the traditional tricycle style trikes, like the Harley.
But what of the efforts of companies like Brudeli? One claimed benefit is improved braking in corners. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222793411.jpg |

Piaggio's MP3 is a 250cc/500cc scooter on the market that has two wheels in front and leans. Reviews say it rides well and much less risk of losing the front wheel in braking or turns. I do think it looks funny. But I'm keeping an open mind.

I saw an old lady on one of those Vespa? MP3 wheelers down by Point Loma in San Diego the other day, she looked like she was having fun.

Not a leaner, but the only trike I REALLY like! These do NOT strike me as ghey. :)
(Sorry, Kurt - I'm hijacking, will quit now.) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222798120.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222798142.jpg |

That one looks like torque steer may be an issue, yes? |

still wouldn't own one

The old Morgan's and even the new knock offs of them are pretty cool. I'd drive one.

At any rate, I'll make an exception from my "ghey" classification for vintage rides like that. |
[QUOTE=Gogar;4210214]What about this:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222785672.jpg What's with these? They're all over So Cal. Is there some performance advantage to that layout. BTW - they sound like single cylinder thumpers! |
My vote for funniest exchange of the year. I'm still chuckling, just thinking about it.

Looks like a Seadoo with wheels to me, fugly.
Seems like a gimmick to me. However, I wouldnt count out anything Harley does, their fans are loyal. |
[QUOTE=daepp;4210985][QUOTE=Gogar;4210214]What about this:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1222785672.jpg QUOTE] I see one up and down my street every so often. Its an older guy so perhaps it is more attracitve to the older set who want the stability but still want to ride. |

As a current rider that struggles with a physical handicap I can say that such a setup may indeed be inevitable for people such as me. I am already at odds withthe weight of my ride at parking lot speeds and suffer with a drop far to often compared to fully healthy riders.
I had thought that a hack would be the only alternative available to me but those require significant upper body effort. A three wheeled leaner might be just what I need. |
