Civil Unrest
At this point I do not think so.
However the possibility now exists which is scary all by itself. People have talked about it for decades, and everybody thought they were nutz...now the main stream guy is starting to get worried...well that is not good. During the Great Depression there was not a breakdown of society nor the government. The US govt came very close to a Communist revolution if the situation had gotten much worse and FDR was not elected. There was also a march on DC by the veterans of WW1, wanting their annuity payment,,it was McArthur that broke them up with US troops. FDR brought hope..that the govt could act and stabilize the situation. Which he did with govt socialist programs. Social Security the TVA and WPA among others. This time it is different, the govt is basically BROKE this time around. All those govt expenditures are going to limit what the govt can do. Will the Republic survive? Well with todays actions the answer is basically NO. Congress could not stop the arguing! even though most members on both sides had put down the axes to grind. The test will come in November...if they suspend the elections because of a National Emergency....the precedent t will have been set.

I was not pleased with Obama pushing his agenda...instead of calling for calm...
He may get elected and declare martial law....my God that would be the end... Another aspect is if the govt of the US does fail to act...those foeigners will BAIL OUT of the US debt market as a vote of no cofidence. If we suspend democracy in this country the world economy will fail.

When you get down to it, it was also government that caused the problem this time around too.

The revolution will take place on the collective couches of middle America.
It won't be televised, but there will be television watching involved.

The only solace all of you may have is that the world is in the same leaking boat..and in many cases is in worst shape than the USA.

The first version of the bill had provisions that would let a JUDGE change the interest rate on your mortgage for you! And there were $billions appropriated to activist PAC's! Those provisions were ultimately stripped from the final version, but the idea that these morons would stuff a bill with pork during a time of extreme crisis is unthinkable.
And some of the geniuses here on PPOT want to turn health care over to these clowns.

My only solace is that I'm employed by a university so we are buffered somewhat by a credit crunch. That being said our particular group lives off a govt contract and if that shrinks or goes away I'm toast. What will happen will happen... |

So, the rebublicans blocked the bill. Dow took a plunge, things may keep crashing very fast. Yeah, civil unrest is a possiblity, and martial law a possible consequence. Elections cancelled, and welcome to the Bush dictature! I had read conspiracies theories like that before, but never thought this could actually be in the realm of possibilities.

We already did turn it over to those clowns. The special interest groups have convinced government that it should be private and mostly unregulated. So we have the reality that a large percentage of citizens in the richest country in the world suffer from no health insurance ( can't afford it). And the single most common reason the elderly and or retired to loose their homes is medical bankruptcy. Well done!

Hey, now. That's not such a bad idea. Then all health care providers could be considered government employees. Pay is only OK. But the flipside is enormous. You don't have to really do any work if you don't want to. Impossible to fire. If anything, ineptitude gets you promoted (so that you're in management, out of direct patient care responsibilities where you might actually harm someone). Get a guaranteed pension. Take advantage of USAA benefits. You'd be protected from lawsuits (hey, don't sue me...sue my boss, cause he's got all the money). Never have to answer to any complaint. No fears of retribution. In at 10. Gone at 4. Get paid overtime for anything else. Work 5 days a week. Don't have to work holidays. Bite your tongue, Dr. Moses. This may work, yet.

I personally don't think Bush wants any part of a dictatorship....After Bhutto was assinated he looked like a man on the verge of a nervous breakdown...everything has seemed to go wrong on his watch. I think he just wants to go home to Crawford.
I am not a conspiracy nut....I don't see this as being a Partisan take over...but more of an administrative take over by the Treasury or Fed....that was my fear in the initial offering of this bill. The Treasury and Fed do need oversight...maybe just passive looking over the shoulder kind that could scream bloody murder if the Fed or Treasury went overboard.
