A New Chapter, A New Username?
Some of you may know the details of my username, but for those who don't, it is the sum of two acronyms which identify where I work, and what I do: ZOA = 3 letter ident for Oakland Air Traffic Control Center, NAS = National Airspace System Specialist.
I've used that username since I first registered here, and everywhere else online, but I will soon be promoted to ZOA NOM (NAS Operations Manager), which will most likely be the last promotion I will see in my career, as any move to any other position, even into executive management would be a pay cut. The NAS Operations Manager works a rotating shift with premium pay for nights, weekends and holidays, which management does not receive. What I'm interested in is changing my username to ZOA NOM (with the space) without having to create a new profile. I'd like to keep my avatar, since it's sort of a trademark of mine. Every time I meet a Pelican, I just have to simulate bouncing boobs up and down, and the recognition is immediate, usually with a grin. Can it be done by a moderator or admin, or am I stuck with either creating a new profile or keeping ZOA NAS? |

Wait a minute. You work OAK Center? Are you a Center controller? If so, I probably speak to you all the time. I'm with Eagle out of LAX and run up and down the coast multiple times a day every day.

Good morning, Oakland Center. Clipper two checking in at three five zero.

Whew, finally got a chance to reply -
I am in Tech Ops, not Air Traffic, so I don't work the scopes. I make sure the NAS systems are operational for the controllers. We monitor/reconfigure/mitigate failures, etc., for the NAS. Oakland Center controls the domestic airspace for NorCal over into Nevada, up into Oregon, and halfway down to LA. We also control the Oceanic airspace for the Pacific Ocean - all of it. The NAS Operations Manager is responsible for two Host computer systems that manage all flight plans (one domestic and one oceanic), the Display subsystems that provide the controllers their picture, and all the ground-based NavAids for the SFO Bay Area and NorCal General Aviation customers. 450knot, I'll have one of my controller friends give you a shout out one of these days. Maybe even a preferential route. :) I definitely want to keep the avatar, but I'm worried that it'll be lost if I switch to a new profile. I've recently tried to change it, and it doesn't seem like the new server permissions allow animated gif avatars anymore. I think I'm the only one left. EDIT: For Wayne - If it can be done, I'd really appreciate just changing the username and leaving everything else alone. I'll drop you an e-mail in case you don't see this. |
AWESOME!!! Thanks Wayne!

He was assuming you meant "meet a Pelican" in person.
You know... out in real life. |
Congratulations! :)
