I have been told that if the cop seems cool, ask him for a no front plate and a no seatbelt instead of the speeding ticket.
Ihaven't need to try this ploy |

I have gotten two tickets in my Tahoe over the past 8 years, and a warning in the red 911 turbo.
Go figure. Bill |

I get warnings only if my infraction is marginal. 60 in a 55 or some sketchy lane changes. Otherwise ticket city.
Coming back from the MotoGP two weeks ago on Rt70 in Indiana i missed the change to 55 and got ticketed for 76 in a 55. LEO didn't even ask for the bike's papers, just my license. |
Another story, somewhat on topic:
Once a cop came up to my window and the first thing he said was, "Do you have someone who can come and pick you up?" Ha, ha! True Story ;) |

The time's I've gotten a warning were times when a ticket would have meant a court date. ie 60 in a 30 at 2am, running without lights. 100+ in a 45 on a bike I'd just finished putting back together. |
I have NEVER gotten a warning - only tickets - many many tickets
BUT, this is as close to a ticket as i have been. about 20 years ago i was driving north on I-5 heading to northern Cali at about midnight. I was cruising at about 100 mph & was going to pass a car in the slow lane. When i got about 100 yards behind the slower car (he was going the speed limit), he flashed his party lights - needless to say i crapped my pants & slammed hard on the brakes. He turned off on the next ramp & i never saw him again. |
Only if I cry and hike up my skirt.

I've gotten a couple of warnings. The first I can recall was when I was 17. Was headed to a party around 6:45 on a Friday night, and the two pokes in front me had me itchy. After we left the next stop light, the car in front of me allowed just enough room from me get over and haul what ever a$$ the ole dodge truck had. There was a patrol officer right behind me though! I never even noticed. However, I can imagine that he may have thought I was trying to get away from him. When he and his partner came up to the window they were in disbelief. "How did you not see us?" Well, officer, I was too busy trying to calculate how I going to get around those two in front, you would have been the least of my worries, since you were already behind me, I replied. They questioned me as to why I was in such a hurry, and why I had baseball bat. I said I was late for a baseball game, and we need that bat!
Another good one was driving in the middle of the night to my lease, which was damned near Mexico. The town of Junction. We stopped at the local filler up and headed out of town, it must have been 1am, we had been driving for 5 hours already. I paid no attention to what the posted speed was, and before I had cleared town, I was double the speed. I wasn't speeding by much when I passed the two patrol cars in the parking lot beside the road, and when they didn't pull out then, I keep on accelerating. Well eventually they turned on the cherries started my way. I could see them pull out way back there, and I knew I was busted, so I pulled over and waited on them. They immediately asked me to step out of the car because there was an open container in the vehicle. Then they asked my buddy to get out. The police officers then questioned each of us separately, and when our stories matched, and I wasn't slurring my words, they sent us on our way with nothing other than a slow down guys, and have fun but be safe. Come to find out as soon as we get down the road a bit further, there was a reason the speed doesn't go up, a sharp bender to the left. I would have never made it at 70, probably not even 40. And the beer thing, we could have open containers then, it was the adams apple rule. My buddy had a great one liner to one of the officers, "He's the designated driver, I'm the designated drunk!" |
How NOT to get a warning.
I can only imagine, dementia or drunk. <object width="464" height="392"><param name="movie" value="http://embed.break.com/NTg0ODk2"></param><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://embed.break.com/NTg0ODk2" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowScriptAccess=always width="464" height="392"></embed></object><br><font size=1><a href="http://break.com/index/how-to-turn-a-speeding-ticket-into-jail-time.html">How To Get Jail Time For A Speeding Ticket</a> - Watch more <a href="http://www.break.com/">free videos</a></font> |
I really have to knock on wood!!!
It happened (or didn't happen) again: I turned on a major road by the house, got on it, and pitched the 930 sideways in a big hp slide. I didn't speed, but it was a big time exhibition of acceleration offense. Sure enough, a cop was in the corner gas station, pulled out and chased me down at a HIGH rate of speed. He came up on my bumper at 80-90mph! He pulled up on my left and gave me a stern look which I replied to with a "I'm sorry/I know what I did look" and he speed past me. I don't know if it's the 930 or my short graying hair, but I have yet to get a ticket or even pulled over in the 930. Considering the way I drive, that's saying something! |
If it weren't for warnings, I probably wouldn't be driving anymore. I've received about 5-6 speeding tickets over 32 years of driving, and some were bs (less than 10 over - wrong place, wrong time). However, I bet I've received a warning at least 12-15 times, and some were for more than 15 over. I'm a "YES SIR/NO SIR" kind of person to a LEO, but I've never hiked my skirt :)!

I am about 60/40 Tickets/ Warnings only 2 tickets in the last 5 years.
This was on the last drive of the year early November. He was not up for a warning. :( http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1228711286.jpg |
I just got a warning for no insurance, though I actually do have insurance, I just couldn't find my current card.
What I found interesting is that I was doing 62 in a 45, wasn't wearing a seatbelt, and had no proof of insurance. She never mentioned the speeding, wrote me a ticket for the seatbelt, and said she'd "let me slide" on the insurance. Revenue generation? Nah, couldn't be. First ticket in 4 years and 55,000 miles. |
