True that. I would even argue Some Girls was the penultimate great Stones album. "Thank you, Jesus, thank you, Lord." Give it up, Ted. Tattoo came out of left field when everybody thought the Glimmer Twins had left it all on the coke mirror, and proved you wrong. Tim |

Ry Cooder said of Jagger, "The little twerp thinks he is Lucifer."
Take a look at any pre Alta Mont performance during the 68-69 period....Jagger is strutin around like he believes his hype was real. That Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed Albums were the HIGH WATER MARK of the Stones. The next albums Sticky Fingers and Exiles are also rated as being part of the Golden Age of the Stones, but as said they were largely in the pipeline from 69. The songs off those albums are all powerhouse classics. Street Fightin Man, Sympathy, Stray Cat Blues, Can't get what ya want, Midnight rambler, Gimme Shelter, Country Honky Tonk, Monkey Man. also released during this period but not on an album was Jumpin Jack Flash...Every song was edgy...all mirrored the decline and demise of Brain Jones. Brown Sugar and Lovin Cup were completed long before they appeared on Sticky or Exiles. If one looks at the video of the July 1969 video of the Hyde Park Free Concert where the English version of the Hells Angels showed up one can see that Jagger probably was under the impression that the American version of the Hells Angels were POOFS too. WRONG the American Hells Angels were REAL BAD MEN and that was rubbed right in Jagger and the Stones noses when that Black Man was murdered right in front of their eyes at Alta Mont. THey just had a reality check that the Stones were just posing as BAD GUYS...the Angels were the REAL DEAL. Check out the faces of Charlie and Jagger as they watch the footage of the murder, Charlie looks like he wants to cry. That is in the movie Gimme Shelter, which was a concert footage film of the Madison Garden shows in Dec 69 and Alta Mont later in the month. Listen to the album Get Yer Ya YA Out...that is the greatest live album ever. that was recorded at the 69 Madison Garden Shows. Those performaces were awesome. The Stones played like a well oiled machine. I saw the Stones at the LA Forum in July 72...3rd row Loge, and 2 years ago December 06 at the MGM Grand 24th row Loge. Both premium seats....First time was mesmerizing the second I could not get over how scripted the show seemed. |

The Stones never recorded nor played with the same ferocity as they did before Alta Mont.

For years I would say, "Man I wish I was broke!...... broke is even; at least I'd be outa debt!"
so if you're half broke you're doing great! I'll find you next time Tabs, and trust me, there's gonna be a next time! I love that place where you live! Everything in extreme. That BOOM was just a little too quick, I need just a little more; ha, ha, ha! |

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Black and Blue either. In fact it's one of my favourite Stones albums. Love Hand of Fate!
Even Voodoo Lounge and Steel Wheels would be epic if they cut out a few of the duds. |
