I am thinking of going naked

I stumbled across this picture of what appears to be the new 2009 BMW K1300R. I currently ride a 2005 R1200RT and think this would be a very nice addition for days when a more spirited ride is desired.

A few specs:

2009 BMW K1300R specs:

Engine

1,293cc, water-cooled four-stroke straight-four,
DOHC, four valves per cylinder

173bhp at 9,250rpm

140Nm at 8,250rpm

Electronic fuel injection, Digital Motor Electronics with integrated knock control (BMS-K)

5.0ltr/100 km (at a steady 90 km/h)

Chassis and suspension

Aluminium beam frame, with the engine as a load-bearing member

Duolever with central spring strut (front), cast aluminium single-sided Paralever swingarm (rear), adjustable for preload and rebound damping

Dry weight 217kg

Brakes

Twin 320mm discs (front) with four-piston fixed calipers, single 265mm disc (rear) with twin-piston fixed calipers. ABS (optional)

Electronics

Anti-lock brakes, ASC traction control, ESA II (electronic suspension adjustment (optional)), Quickshift system, with clutchless, push-button gearshifts (optional)

A good webite:

Resistance is futile me thinks.

that thing is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more than spirited...it's possessed! It will certainly get you from here to there most expeditiously.

The guy who sold me my R1150R bought one of those to replace it. He called me a few mos. later and said he hated it and was selling it. He said it had gone back for warranty repairs a lot and didn't have the personality of the boxers.

I like the way they put the airbag right there up high so you can lie down on it for highway cruising.

yeah I'd have a hard time letting go of the S for that reason. But I sure wish I had the coin for a Tricolore as well.

Don't worry, that'll buff right out.

Oh wait, it's SUPPOSED to look like that?

I think the 05 and 06 K bikes had some issues (first of the new generation). But, from what I understand, the 07+ are reliable as a brick.

Having owned an earlier K-bike, I would not disregard this bike because of the "soul" comments from R-bike owners. The K's are smooth as glass and are scary fast. I've never met anyone that owned a late model K1200S and didn't love it. The R is the naked version of the same bike (but you knew that...hence the thread title).

In that monster that oil filter is begging to have a hole punched thanks to a rock that will gently seize the engine... But I'd still sell a kidney to get one..

How about the new Ducati Fighter? Still under wraps, but someone got a hold of the November cover of an Italian Magazine that has it. Rumor has it that select dealers were given a preview last week. Basically a naked superbike.

I originally hated the look of the K1200R, but it grew on me. Now I think it is awesome. It will hand any monster it's head without breaking a sweat - totally different league of engine.

Love the orange too. The Shiver might be sold...but I don't need 173hp...
