Gas @ 2.99 in Michigan/Think it'll be down to $2.00?

Here in my town the gas stations are all at 2.99 as of 5:30 tonight.

Strange enough, in Saginaw, just 35 miles north, it's still up around 3.45.

Do you guys think it will get back down to $2.00 a gallon by the end of the year?

wcc 10-08-2008 05:47 PM

It doesn't go down as fast as it goes up. So technically it should already be like $2.50 or less. But of course it isn't. Lansing is still around $3.40. Of course, I did find lots of houses in Flint and Detroit for about $15k.

No

JavaBrewer 10-08-2008 08:07 PM

Still $4.00/gal for 91 here in San Marcos...

p911dad 10-09-2008 01:00 AM

$3.59 in Rochester, NY with a few .10 less.

A little town near here is 2.86. Will we see 2.00 ever again? I HIGHLY doubt it, but then again I never thought it would get under 3.00 again. It's called greed, the oil companies are posting their highest profits ever.

Tim Walsh 10-09-2008 03:17 AM

Well we were paying the most for gas in the country here in NC, 3.90+/gallon and more than a few at over $4, but it's finally starting to come down. Maybe houston/galveston/port Aurther's finally back up to full steam?

azasadny 10-09-2008 03:22 AM

I just paid $3.65 for premium unleaded and my wife just paid $3.45 for the same at the local Meijer. Too bad my 401(k) is down almost 50%!

ChemMan 10-09-2008 03:41 AM

It was $3.15 for regular on my way into work this morning.

VINMAN 10-09-2008 03:41 AM

Just paid $2.93 in NJ this morning. I dont think we will ever see $2.00 again.

I would be happy just to see diesel lower than regular, like it always was.

Porsche-O-Phile 10-09-2008 05:06 AM

They could give it away for free and I still wouldn't move there.

Don't get too used to it. Pretty soon our "friends" the Saudis will start curtailing production in order to drive the price up again - probably just in time for the holidays. That, plus rampant inflation will have gas prices up nice and high again in about a year or so.

onewhippedpuppy 10-09-2008 05:12 AM

$2.99 here. Sad how that feels cheap. Pavlov was right......

JeremyD 10-09-2008 05:14 AM

It should really be closer to $2.50 - If the oil companies report record profits again I'm afraid an angry mob will form.

dhoward 10-09-2008 06:51 AM

But they won't.
Thats the problem.

kach22i 10-09-2008 07:21 AM

$60 for a fill up instead of $80, maybe I can go to the bar once a week again.

SlowToady 10-09-2008 08:25 AM

$3.16 for regular here in Lexington. Was $3.86 a few weeks ago when the hurricane stuff was going on and $3.45 previously.

GothingNC 10-09-2008 08:30 AM

No,

Opec is getting woried and will cut back supply.

Regular unleaded hit $5.00/gallon here for like an afternoon, it was the day Ike hit. It was weird, one station would be at $5, and the one across the street would still be at $3.65. Gouging? I don't think anyone bought much of the $5 gas that day. It was all back down the next day.
