Always frustrating when someone has neough money to buy an rv or tow setup, but not enough money to store it somewhere.
What people this is "considerate" is all over the map. Lots of people think that the street is fair game and they can park whatever they want there for however long they want. I live in predominantly apartments/condos and street parking is sometimes tight on street sweeping nights. There was someone with an RV who parked on the street and it was annoying to have it eat up that extra parking spot. It had to move every week for street sweeping so it likely didn't fall under any regulations. I didn't care about the look, just the loss of the parking spot. My bet is a calm conversation will get you nowhere but it really is the logical first step. You might get surprised...some people are oblivious to how their actions impact others. 47 year 3rd generation native (born in San Diego though, not LA). |
Nostatic,
yes give conversation the first nod. why are you selling the Ape? |
i'd just say that i would appreciate it if they moved their stuff and conformed to the law. people parking in a way that blocks the sidewalk pisses me off. i have people visit and do that at my house and i always ask them if i can move their car for them. they get the hint and no one gets offended. if they park their RV in their driveway, i don't care, its not my property, but blocking the sidewalk is annoying.
that said, i have a prick neighbor across the street that is constantly parking vehicles in front of my house, despite having two driveways and the front of his own house. one day he had his POS trailer parked out there and i asked him to move it. he acted like a douche, like he owned the whole damn street, and i went postal on him. i gave him five minutes to move it under threat of me moving it myself, with the caveat that he wouldn't like the results. he had it moved in three minutes. we haven't talked in five years and i don't much miss it. |

All you guys who just think he should call the cops without a friendly conversation first
need to read the thread where cgarr's neighbors called the cops on him without a friendly conversation first. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/434129-tuning-carrera-gets-cops-called.html Everyone was happy to chime in on that thread about how it would've been so much easier if everyone had just been neighborly. |
Problem solved.
The neighbor whose house the behemoth was actually parked in front of (and who has a closer friendship with them) said it was not safe for his family to pull out from the driveway. It is now gone! Thank you for the suggestions and opinions. Mike FWIW: I am a 3rd generation So Californian @ 49 years of age. |
Mom's side of the family moved here due to war. They left before the fighting prior to 1863 in the south.
Dad's side Grandpa got here from England just prior to WWII. My Grandmother was an Illegal alien from Canada. But, I just get sick and tired of everyone pissing and moaning about us Californians. Most of us come from elsewhere. |
well, it is the socialist republic of california! ;)
is it true that california has something like the fourth or fifth largest economy in the world? |

In my city, you need a permit to park your car on the street (you must have 4 cars and 3 licensed drivers for said permit) And you can get 30 overnight passes. If you have a trailer it needs it's own pass.
when I was racing, I would run out of permits! I would leave my RV and trailer out hoping that I didn't get a $30 "permit". Irvine is worse. you cannot park your car on the driveway over night. ALL cars must be in the garage! Cerritos, where I live wanted to have zero rv's on anyones property. I attended the city council meeting along with an overflowing crowd of citizens to stand up to city council. We got them to change their tune. |
they are fragrantly breaking the law. They've already demonstrated how little they care about their neighbors.
Make the call. |

I noticed that too Todd, but I resisted--lol
Todd: In the future, before I let trivial things get under my skin, I am going to try to redirect my thoughts to Pema and what she would do. I am forever indebted to you for posting about her way back when. Moreover, while the love fest is on, I recognized that you were an exceptionally bright person based on your posts from the Tech Forum and particularly here Off Topic. But, I read your CV recently and I am completely blown away. You are truly one BRIGHT, creative, insightful, and intense person. If I had accomplished even a fraction of what you have in life... well, I don't know what. Anyway, you are an amazing human being Todd! Mike |
