My weekend project.- new MONITOR.

Well, I got a new monitor for my office computer, and time to install it. Easy, huh? Not so much.

Before: Dual 18" NECs. They're up there on the wall behind one o' them speakers

I've been doing a 5.1 surround mix, so there's a few more speakers than normal. What a mess, but fun.

Clearing the way:

Needless to say, lots 'o wires to undo, to be able to get to the wall.

The new Monitor, a HAANS-G 28" 1080p from newegg.com. $479!!!! Ridiculous. It has a few issues making "red" from the HDMI input, but jeezus it was $479. Works fine from the D-Sub.

It only weighs 24 lbs, so I could use a pretty small VESA mount.

I also moved the whole desk-assembly about 6" further into the room, to get the speakers a little further away from the wall. (sounds a little better that way.)

Almost done! Hooking them wires back up.

Done! Many, many hours with a level. Getting all those desks level front-back and side-side, and the monitor on the wall level and centered in between the lights was a PITA but totally worth it if you're going to have to stare at it for days at a time.

Now that I'm done, I don't want to go in there for a day or so, I'm sick of it. Great EL-CHEAPO monitor, though. Get the service plan.

Very nice, but I think the carpet is little off center.

Moses 10-12-2008 06:40 PM

Wow. Command central. Have you cleared your setup with Homeland Security?

I can't imagine what all that stuff does to the electricity bill...

It's not usually all turned on, I was just trying to be impressive.

SlowToady 10-12-2008 07:03 PM

OMFG! Man, can I come over and play some time? That room is like sex for geeks.

VaSteve 10-12-2008 07:15 PM

Cool set up. I hate projects like that.....5 hours of moving stuff for 20 minutes of work. 5 hours to put it all back.

You must have crazy patience. I see all that equipment and figure you could tune and tweak a piece of music literally forever. How do you decide when it's done? I guess this explains why I'm not a creative type.

Gogar 10-12-2008 07:19 PM

Well, Steve, there's a saying for that.

You never "Finish" recording projects, you "Abandon" them.

I'm such a Gump, that's the first thing I thought of... :)

Don Plumley 10-12-2008 08:46 PM

Does it go to 11?

Gogar 10-12-2008 09:10 PM

No, but I've had it to an indicated 165 with the targa top off. SmileWavy

Nice monitor install but wow, that's a lot of (rack) gear. I'm going to call your local Digidesign rep for an intervention! :D

That rug really ties the room together...
