Awesome. Have you been shaving your legs?

Z-man 10-15-2008 07:06 AM

Wow. Mrs. Z-man and I visited Yosemite this summer - Half Dome was just a wee bit too great a hike for us city folks.... How long did it take you?

Nice pics!

nice job. my son and I tried last year, got to the stone stairs and thunder and lightning chased us all down .

It was a hard climb for me, I'll try again next year at 60.

so how long to get to the top?

Not recently . . .

It takes me a little over four hours round-trip.

craigster59 10-15-2008 08:02 AM

Great time of year to be there. How many people did you see on the hike?

trekkor 10-15-2008 08:05 AM

I'd like to take that trip.

My best bud & I went by Half Dome on a week long hike a couple of summers ago. We thought about going up, but seeing the people lined up like a line ants when we were looking at the back side from the trail turned us off to that idea. Looks like you had better luck. Great views.

Ok... I've done that hike a few times, with family and with the Boy Scouts. It's 18 miles round trip +/-. Most people leave at dawn so they can be back before sunset. Four hours roundtrip? Did you find a secret elevator somewhere?

stevepaa 10-15-2008 11:21 AM

some guy went up and down and up as I was going up

oh to be young again.

ckissick 10-15-2008 11:59 AM

I was lucky enough to spend a night up there back when you were still allowed to. Quite a sunset.

Porsche-O-Phile 10-15-2008 12:13 PM

Very cool! It's been too long. Maybe I'll head back next year.

are you kidding me? the second time i went there was an older married couple. late 60's, maybe early 70's. they each had a canteen, yup, no camelbacks or nalgene bottle, a old school canteen. they were all khaki-ed out with walking sticks. the woman had a "hiking skirt" on. (i asked). they blasted up and were coming down before we got to the top. i was stunned. they said they live nearby and do it twice a week.

stevepaa 10-15-2008 12:20 PM

i gotta get in shape

My Half Dome story involves me, an H-60 and a Park Ranger with a camera.

The Dome was angry that day, my friend...

SteveinTO 10-15-2008 09:54 PM

Done the Dome twice. Left Curry Village tents at sunup. Think we were up top about noonish & spent an hour. Much faster coming down. Swam in the Emerald Pool above Vernal Falls. Little nippy. Back in time for dinner @ Curry. Eighteen miles round trip. Carry lots of water, maybe a change of socks, blister meds for tenderfoots. Don't accidentally knock your keds in the river if you stop to cool your feet. It's a really long walk barefoot. Don't ask how I know.

Craig,

I saw very few people going up, three or four on top and probably 100 coming down, most of which were durn foreigners. . .
