Recommend Color Laser Printer?
I have come to hate my inkjet color multifunction printer. I hate having to crawl under the desk and change printer cartridges every other week, I hate having to reload blank paper every other day, I hate the long delay before it starts printing, I hate that I paid for scan/copy features that I haven't used in years, I hate everything about it. Arrgh. And, most of all, I hate that it no longer works.
I want a printer that can be loaded up w/ hundreds of sheets and print for months and months before needing new ink. I want a laser. Does anyone have recommendations for an affordable color laser printer? I'm looking at the HP1215 ($199) but would be open to suggestions. My criteria - this is for home use, so I don't need Ethernet or 100MB memory. Needs to be Mac-friendly. I'd like to be able to print the occasional 4x6 photo, but 90% of the use will be mono text, 9% color documents, 1% photos. Availability of refilled/recycled toner would be nice. |
I have the HP Color Laserjet 1600
It's great |
ask to try it first - use photos and drawings -- blk text will be fine

I've got a Xerox Phaser 6180 in my office. Just got it a few weeks ago and it seems to be pretty nice. The output is excellent, and for color-heavy work, it beats an inkjet hands-down. Researched it and it is rated & reviewed very well. Might be worth a look...

How well do color photos come out on the laser printers? My Canon ink jet makes pictures that look like they were professionally done.

I recently purchased a HP 3600n for about $250 - which I think is a super deal. There are 4 ink cartriges, that each retail for $75 if bought separately. The cartriges are supposed to go for 4K copies. I mostly print office documents. As for printing photos, ink jets are hard to beat.

Color laser is not a good choice for photos.

Several years ago we bought an HP Color Laserjet 2500. It works well. I wish we had gotten the 2500n (includes network support natively). But back then the "n" was really expensive.
As Brandon said, Laser isn't really a "photo" printer. If you want to print photos, then you need ink jet or a photo printer (which is probably ink jet). |
I was looking to get an HP as well - they had a nice wireless version on sale at Beast Buy for $145. Still haven't pulled the trigger...

I'm researching the HP laserjets, and notice lots of complaints about the HP printer drivers for Leopard Mac OS X 10.5. Anyone know if this has been resolved?
