Boats: Do you take liability insurance?
I just bought a 16 foot Larson boat. It's great fun in the canals of the "Venice of America", Fort Lauderdale.
Liability insurance? I thought my homeowners would cover this, but my insurance guy said not. I will probably spend 90 of the operating time with me only in the boat; the rest will be the woman and the friends from the neighborhood. And even then, 90% of our little cruises will be within two miles of my house, and always at idle speed due to manatees. Liability insurance? My insurance guy quoted me $227 per year. Worth it? N? |

Insurance is never worth it until you need it.
That being said, I have a 32' boat and am insured against loss, liability, etc.

The only boat I didn't bother with insurance was my old Laser. All others were covered against loss and liability.
Consider an umbrella policy, too.

I won't drive a car without liability, and I won't drive a boat without it, either.
The risks are not worth it. $227 is silly cheap compared to a lawsuit. |
