chinese food
You ever find a Chinese food place that is just absolutely incredible?
For the last two months I have been getting takeout from this local place and usually I get tired of a certain chinese place after a while but this stuff is so effing good. I think they lace their General Tso's chicken with cocaine. And for $5.35 you get this big styrofoam box full of it. I pickup food there at least 4 times a week. If only the chick at the window was hotter, this would be a one stop shop for all my vices.

We have a nice little Chinese place right in town. They even let us customise our orders when that is a no-no in that business.
2 complete dinners for $16.00 and we usually get dinner and then lunch the next day for both of us. Sesame chicken for me. Sweet and sour chicken for wifey.

That photo is before they're cooked in the hot pot. I didn't try the dog (that I know of). But I never had a piece of western food the whole time there, never had a bad meal and never had any stomach problems. It was a culinary paradise and dirt cheap. That huge meal with the giant bowl in the table was less than $8 total for three of us with beer and more than we could eat.

I'm not talking about dog, I'm just talking about real chinese food. Most americans would not really enjoy it. That's why chinese restaurants in the US serve the "americanized" version. if they tried to sell real chinese food to white people, they'd go bankrupt in 2 months.

There are some things in real Chinese food that the average American wouldn't eat. Of course, the same is true of many foods, even those from Europe. Most cultures eat all the parts of an animal happily, we only eat those things when we eat hot dogs, as we don't know any better.
Decent Chinese food in this country is getting harder to find. Great chinese food is impossible to find. Someday I'll get back to Singapore and you'll never see me again. Food paradise... JR |

Dudley Moore once said "sex and Chinese food are the only two things in life worth living for", and I have some sympathy for that remark.
I've had some of the best meals of my life in China, but also some of the worst—the latter largely because the quality of the ingredients can be very dodgy. We also have a lot of Chinese in our circle of friends and family, and they claim the best Chinese food in the world is in Vancouver, San Francisco and New York. That's where the best Chinese chefs like to emigrate to, and where the ingredients are the best. I have to agree with Rick that General Tso's chicken...well it's the Chinese equivalent of Dominoes pizza. All batter and MSG. You can do better.

Ugh, Tsingtao... Talk about boring. It's too bad there are no Chinese microbreweries, or if there are, it's too bad I didn't sample their wares when I was there. Tsingtao and Tiger are bland and boring - they don't live up to all the flavours in those pictures.

I always hear the old 'it's all cat meat you know'...
but if cat meat tastes that good we need to be eating friggin cats. as for the MSG... I douse the entire box with soy sauce as soon as I open it anyways. I'm asking for it.

i will be in singapore in one week. off to the hawker stands for me. i love it!
now to chinese food. i believe general's (tsao) chicken IS chinese food. apparently, this was some chinese military dude's favorite meal, and he ate it all the time. i bet the version we see has been americanized, but only with respect to chicken pieces. they probably served it all up. beaks and butts. either way, i love all chinese food. i eat it all. i will grub eggrolls, SS chicken, and all the more authentic versions. it all goes down. watch the MSG guys. they load it up. sesame chicken. in cantoness = gee ma gai.
