There are many ways to gamble. Sitting at a slot machine in the casino or playing the lotto are not really gambling, that's donating. I do neither but I do gamble.

You're married, right? You gamble.

Was up in Detroit for a race last year with some friends. After the car we were campaigning popped a motor we decided to head across the border to Canada. Lots of drinking. We head to the casino. One friend of mine had a big lucky streak at blackjack, he was up a ton. No so for me. I left a lot of money in Canada that night. Took me the rest of that summer to pay off the debt.
I like to play holdem for low stakes now and then. Used to play big a few years ago, got into some 100-200$ buy in games. No more of that anymore either. |
My in laws gambled they're entire life, no money left to bury my father in law.
The wife's memories of childhood vacations were centered around Vegas, Reno and Tahoehttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...leys/shake.gif |
Gambling is one of the few bad habits I don't have.

Gambling is indeed a bad habit. It's intellectually stimulating and *can* be rewarding but to be honest it's a massive time bandit just like any other hobby.
FWIW, I am not a casino gambler. |
I have only gambled a couple times. I found it boring. If memory serves correctly, the last time was at the Belagio about 5 years ago. I won $40 at black jack. I'm a high roller, I know.

Pop quiz for the blackjack players: You have a soft 17, dealer shows 3. What do you do?

I grew up in a horse racing family but gambling does nothing for me personally. I've made more than I've lost so I've stopped while being one of the few people head of the game.
I've got much better ways to lose my money such as the stock market. |

I've have been going to Vegas for the CES show almost every year since 1983. I never threw away - because that's what it is - anymore than $150. The last 5 years I haven't even played a quarter.
My best night in Vegas was a drunken one around 1988. I played from midnight until 7 AM on $20 at the Stardust on $2 Blackjack. I never went over $35 & I never went bust until I just threw it all in at 7 AM. Free drinks & multiple dealers until the sun came up. Then a drunken business meeting at 8 AM. We do go to the track for ponies once a year just for fun but it's a lunch & bet sort of thing. Ian |

So that's where that saying comes from: "What happens in Vegas...stays in Vegas" :)
