Ford, new "mykey" can set max speed/max radio volume
So it looks like Ford is coming out with a special "reign in the teenager" programmable key for some of their models. Parents can program in certain limits and annoying chimes like a 80mph top speed, seatbelt chime that never stops, max radio volumes, etc....
It seems that teens don't like the idea ![]() http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27053080/

When a teen buys his own car, with his own money, he can set the limits where he wants.
When he borrows daddy's car, he has to follow daddy's rules. |

Exactly. I suspect when the option is an 80mph limited car or no car at all, they'd be willing to drive the 80mph car. Sadly, you'll still have kids driving WRXs, Mustangs, etc... that are capable of much more speed than teens have judgement.

While I'm not opposed to this, I think one should start educating very early.
What I mean is set examples and share road knowledge when driving with children. Just the other day I was driving along w/my 9 yro son. We were in heavy traffic and I could see cars doing the "lane swap but getting nowhere". Son asks "Dad, why don't you change lanes? That one is moving and we're not?" I smiled internally and replied "Well, take a look at that car and we'll see who gets where first." The lanes moved along and we passed the car and they passed us several times. He began to see how the traffic was flowing. We then talked about patience and "behind the wheel responsibility". It was a good talk. However, I admit I got lucky with how that whole scenario popped up. I just wish it was always that easy.
