No. We've been happily married 15 years, together 19.

Having said that, you guys should do whatever is right for you.

You're missing out on some of the best sex of your life.:D

It reminds me of a good story. One day, back in my single years, I was sitting on the couch in the rental home watching TV. One of my roommates walks in the door with several cut 2x12s and goes upstairs. Comes back down, then heads back up with several more boards. After several repeat trips I finally stopped him and asked what the hell he was doing. He takes me upstairs and shows me his bed frame that he was reinforcing with 2x12s.:D

He needed it too. His girlfriend at the time lived out of town and visited on the weekend. That meant we didn't see him from Friday night until Sunday night, or when they would emerge from the bedroom to get food or use the bathroom. Sunday night she would leave, and he would sit in the living room with a tub of ice cream in his crotch. Ah, college........

Good advice here.

I, personally, am with Angela on this one. But for some people, it is most important that their marriage begin "fresh". Talk about it with her, and decide together what is right for you.

A guy I used to work with insisted on no sex before marriage. He was married and divorced from his second and third wife in the 3 years I was at that job...

I also had a friend to whom abstinence before marriage was very important, as it was with his fiance. Well, they didn't quite live up to their expectations of themselves. Clearly, the failing was mutual but they each blamed the other and it slowly tore the marriage apart over the better part of a decade. Of course there were other contributing factors, but this guilt and blame did them no good.

Everyone's marriage is different.

Whoever did, probably didn't do so entirely voluntarily.

"Some people choose abstinence. Others have abstinence thrust upon them."

VincentVega 11-04-2008 08:23 AM

No kidding. I cant imagine doing so.

bent her over a hay bale and drove her back to Iowa...

I thought the common myth was that most folks abstain after marriage.

porsche4life 11-04-2008 11:19 AM

Ok well its more her than me. I mean its not super important to me and I really feel like she is the one so im not going to screw that up. She even puts up with the porsche habit. However we are discussing it and she might change her mind as it will be at least 3yrs before we can get married and be self supportive.

Yes, but only with my left ear:o

Bill Douglas 11-04-2008 11:36 AM

I haven't been abstaining and I haven't been marrying.

Mind you, international poles show New Zealand women are the most promisuious in the world, so that helps.

Pun intended?

It’s just sex, what’s the big deal? I don’t understand all the fuss about it. Everyone does it, including animals. It’s not like it some sacred thing, unless you make it so in your mind.

Then I see all how all the religions treat sex. I don’t understand that, either. Look at the way Islam treats women. Look at the reward Islam gives you if you martyr yourself. Look at Catholic priests, taking out their frustrations on little boys. The list goes on and on. It’s religion that imposes the idea of abstaining on us, not biology, or even society these days.

Like others have said, sexual compatibility is a very important part of marriage. What if you abstain, marry, and then find you are incompatible? What then?

the 11-04-2008 11:53 AM

Then you do what Billy Clinton and lots of others do, I guess.
