Recommendation for 9mm carry pistol

Guys (and gals),

I know this comes up often, but a coworker of mine wants to know what a good 9mm concealed pistol to buy/carry would be. I have a Sig P239 in 9mm that I carry and heartily recommend that, but he wants several others to compare to the Sig. He really wants to keep it at $500 or less, but he knows he needs to spend enough to get a good, reliable sidearm. He also knows that he needs to go to the range regularly to shoot, hence the 9mm requirement (cheaper ammo). Several others that have come up as "comparable" to the Sig P239 are the Kahr K40 and the Glock 27. I do not have any experience with these. Anyone here have input into this decision? Thanks in advance, I respect the experience and knowledge represented here in this forum!!

Oops, I meant Glock 26 (9mm) instead of Glock 27 (.40cal).

My father has a Sig P230 in .380 that he likes and he's a "must be a .45" kind of guy. I guess the Kahr K40 is .40, so I would change that to the Kahr MK9. I'll see if Browning has a small 9mm... Thanks!

I have the Glock 26. I love it.

You absolutely must get magazine extensions for this model. Without them, your pinky has no place to rest.

The factory magazines that come with the G26 are ten-round. Glock also make 12-round magazine with the pinky rest. You can also buy aftermarket extensions that keep the magazine capacity at 10 rounds.

I have a Glock 19 which I am very pleased with. Except when I try target shooting with reloaded bare lead bullets.

My NY State Trooper buddy has a Glock 26 as his personal carry pistol, he is fanatical about it.

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm very fond of my Sig P239 and would heartily recommend that, but my friend wants a "short list" of at least 3 to compare/contrast.

I'm not fanatical about my Glock 26, but I can't think of anything bad I can say about it.

If your friend can go to $599, CDNN sells H&K P7PSP's for that much. They are about as fine a handgun as they come, gas-operated, so low-recoil, super safe and easy to conceal.

Check out a used Sig P6. I recently picked one up and really like it. Cheap, accurate and compact.

Sig P226 Excellent choice. Tell him to buy a used one.

The Glock is the #2 draft pick.

p226 is kinda big for CCW. P6 (p225 for the 'merikuns in the audience) is a little more viable.

Any reason they want 9mm? p239 can interchage. That would be my choice.
