Blind pilot guided to land by RAF

see BBC

"A pilot who suddenly went blind while flying his plane at 15,000ft (4,572m) was guided in to land by an RAF plane. A plane was scrambled from the RAF base at Linton-on-Ouse in North Yorkshire to help stricken pilot Jim O'Neill, 65.

He was flying a two-seater Cessna aircraft from Prestwick airport in Scotland to Colchester, Essex, when he suffered a stroke and lost his sight.

The RAF plane flew alongside Mr O'Neill and the pilot shepherded him to the base with instructions over the radio."

Wow, amazing. Lucky for ONeil that his stroke wasn't worse.

How is the guy now ?

Luckily he had a lot of experience and didn't lose all of his sight (if I read the article correctly), otherwise flaps etc on the landing checklist would have been real fun, and he probably couldn't have kept his cool.

The flap handle is almost always shaped like a paddle or mini flap and gear handles are almost always shaped like little wheels. since it was a two seater Cessna I would imagine , to a healthy, experienced pilot, that it wouldn't be all that difficult to maintain level. I don't know about the whole stroke thing though. It probably did not affect his inner ear. I would have been scared shi^*&less!

He stepped out of the plane and got squished by a fuel delivery truck...

Okay, sick attempt at humor. Hope he is fine. ;)
