Dyson Racing- Porsche split
http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/alms-dyson-racing-confirms-porsche-split-for-2009/
I thought Dyson was going to be Porsches main team next year in ALMS? Supposedly Penske hasn't made up their minds what they are doing next year. Is it possible no one will be running a Porsche LMP2 car next year?

I've heard that Porsche is pulling out of LMP2 for good, and not going to continue the program? I know they are keeping the RSRs, but the RS Spyder is caput. This is from a local dealer service advisor who keeps up with news from Porsche's company intranet.

That would totally suck. The RS Spyder is a gorgeous car. Well, I have two 1/43rd scale models of them anyway.

Seems Porsche would rather bet it's future on the Panamerica.....sigh. I did follow a nice orange GT3 RS home tonight

I heard that Dyson may be running Lola coupes with Mazda power. Will be interesting to see how they compare to the BK Motorsports car which is off the LMP2 pace. They would probably do really well in an LMP2 Acura with the other teams going LMP1. Penske involvement depends on funding and help from Porsche, at this point it appears they aren't running. Would be a real shame not to have any Porsche prototypes in ALMS, maybe they don't want to spend the $$ on development to keep up with the Acuras...

If you believe the motorsports column in Pano, it sounds like the ACO/FIA will be going back to a top Le Mans class of GT cars starting in 2010 (ie. no more prototypes, cars like the original Porsche GT1). Rumors are that Porsche will be building a closed version of the Carrera GT to compete in the top class at Le Mans and in the ALMS.
Also, if you believe the rumors, since Porsche essentially now owns Audi, you're not going to be seeing too many Porsches being beat by Audis in the coming years. In fact, after the R10 program, it sounds as though Audi may not participate in Le Mans/ALMS when the new formula comes into place. I will miss the Spyders, though. Got to see both the Dyson and Penske Spyders up close at Rennsport at this time last year, and they are beautiful machines (heck, no one was even around the Dyson car - I probably could have sat in it).

In 30 years at some vintage race someone will pull out an 'old' Penske RS Spyder and race it. It will still be a beautiful car then.
