Home electrical troubleshooting help please...

I have a row of 3 can lights I installed in my basement and 1 of them does not work when the switch is on. I need help troubleshooting it without tearing up the ceiling drywall--any tips?

Thanks

You can usually remove the can from the inside with a few screws, push it aside, and access the junction box.

Are they line voltage lights or are there transformers at each light?
+1 to removing the can and you should be able to see the connections and the transformer (if it exists) through the opening.
I know that you have switched lamps to see if that changes anything, but can you see any problems at the socket?

dad911--I'll try that but I'm pretty sure the junction box is part of the can (on top). Bill--not sure what you mean by line voltage lights but these are all separate can lights individually strung in a row with a junction box in each can on top of the can. I've swapped bulbs and I'm wondering if there is something wrong with the socket but I dont know how to test if there is power getting to it.

Dad911 is right, take it apart from the inside. There will be a Junction box, you will need a meter to check voltage.
Junction boxes have to be accessable.

Well the can light gods are smiling upon me tonight. I took a few screws out and a clip and the can came out and I could see the wire that came out of the twist on wire connector--reconnected everything and it works. Thanks for the help guys! Whole thing took me 30 mins-wish I would have done this a long time ago.
