Radio & Head Unit
I'm looking for a high quality and light weight Radio & Head Unit. No CD's but it has to have an AM/FM radio.
What I really want is a light wt. radio with an Aux input [for ipod] and no built-in amp - just a good pre-amp to drive an external amplifier. Ideas? pics? |

i've put in a few of these clarion units, as light as you're going to find i think, it has a built in amp but the bulk of weight in radios is the cd mechs.......it has a 2 volt preamp output.
http://www.clarion.com/us/en/products/2008/audio/source_units/bluetooth_sd/index.html for a while in my 911 i was using an audio control line driver and my sirius stiletto only, it worked well but lacked any tone control..... alpine also has a few units...but i haven't played with them http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/series-c.php?category=IPOD

IF you're worried about weight, why run the seperate amp?
I love my Sony CDX-GT610UI AM/FM/CD. 4 x 52 watts, controls a ipod from the deck controls, has USB jack on the front panel, built in EQ, controls a sony 10 disk changer, and nice look in a 911 too. http://reviews.cnet.com/in-dash-car-stereos/sony-cdx-gt610ui/4505-6729_7-32330347.html

a small separate amp can be located low in the car and further forward than the ones built into the back of the dash mounted control unit. That helps with pitch, yaw, and roll.
it should also be higher quality than an all in one unit -- just like a home stereo |
