Anyone need a door for a Humvee?
The National Guard armory is around the corner from our business. Lots of Humvees, trucks, generators, off-and-on a couple cannons are parked in the lot.
While walking outside, I found a door off a Humvee. I picked it up, brought it in, have it displayed in our lobby until I return it to the armory later today. It's pretty cool, that door. Just a shell with a handle, one diagonal bar spanning its width, and a zip-up plastic window. Nothing else except green and brown camouflage covering. It must have cost the taxpayers at least $1K. i'll bet there's a private first class freaking out somewhere cause he made a run for burritos and popped the doors off the company hummer :D
i got to "play" with a military hummer years ago at fort bragg, i was going to make $100 if i could get it stuck......i never got the $100, quite a machine :D |
Going to return the door now. We used it in a puppet show, and a cat circus (the cats jumped through the "zipped-down" window). Now we're done. SmileWavy

David, I'm glad both you and your cats had fun!

The sad thing - in a way - is the armory will soon close and allow for a homeless shelter. It's comforting to know if rogue forces were to invade Burbank, there's some guardianship nearby to thwart the opposition. What will we now have to battle the enemy? Cots and MREs for the indigent? On a serious note, it's interesting to see how cheaply constructed the door is. Now it's clear what the soldiers in Iraq once had to put up with after running over an IED. A pair of nail clippers could shred the door apart. |
Most fun you can have in a vehicle; truly!

...Not that the stock metal door would do much better against an artillery shell going off three feet away. |
