WOW. Can you play this on guitar? I didnt think so.

Probably the sweetest guitar song I've ever heard

I don't know, I'd need to see the tab for it first.

Sonic dB 11-14-2008 02:04 PM

Well since you challenged me :) I could certainly play it (after working on it a bit to get it together...)...but I wouldnt want to bother to be perfectly frank. It sounds nice as pyrotechnics are, but not my style and quite derivative.

TheMentat 11-14-2008 02:07 PM

maybe on Guitar Hero 3 :)

porsche4life 11-14-2008 02:13 PM

Joe Satriani. Thats all I have to say. Go youtube him. Or Edgar Cruz if classical is more your flavor.

Or any college student with a music major that plays guitar... seriously, I met a kid at the pizza parlor a week ago and he was bragging about his music scholarship and that he plays guitar. So my buddy asks him if he has his guitar with him.
He says "yes" and goes out to his car and returns with a electric guitar and a small amp.
Then proceed to rip through all the Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, EVH, etc. etc. for about forty five minutes... great free show... I think he said he was eighteen.

If you hang around music long enough you will see hundreds of these guitar shredders... not really all that unusual.

GDSOB 11-14-2008 02:30 PM

Why play any more notes than necessary?

Oh Haha 11-14-2008 02:45 PM

I went to school with this guy. Nick Nolan.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otrxufmsJRk&feature=related

Left for LA the summer after graduating with a full ride to GIT. Within a year he was an instructor. Only played together one time at a party for the local bands but man he is incredible.

He's done a ton os session work as well as played with lots of big name bands. Even tried out for Roth when he was going solo after VH but that guy Steve Vai had better hair. (Bad musician joke.)

Nick looked this in high school. Everyone thought it was such a talented girl playing the coronet in marching band.

Oh, his Dad was the plant manager of the local beer distributor. He!! yeah, Buddy!!!

Sonic dB 11-14-2008 03:04 PM

Its just practice time put in....guitar playing is probably 80% physical at least.
This impresses me more, because the guy is a fingerstyle wiz and he interprets the song very well:

Tangerine - the original post is awesome. I cannot relate to any of the naysayers - and I've been playing for a very long time. It's not my style - but OMG...

porsche4life 11-14-2008 08:41 PM

I didnt say it was bad... Just wouldnt say its the best I have ever seen.

Ya I agree. Apparently everyone here CAN play that well. When he starts soloing over the key changes and using both hands (2:24) .... I just love it. Everyones got a different opinion of the type of guitar playing that raises the hair on their neck but when someone can play that type of key progression in a solo that flows and isnt just crazy, stupid fast random notes... man that just does it for me. I sticking with my original statement... one of the best pieces of guitar playing I've ever heard.

By the way in case no one knows, that is Paul Gilbert playing of Racer X who also wrote the song.

slodave 11-14-2008 10:32 PM

If you insist... This was me, just before going out for Halloween last year. I had had a few, so 'scuse me if it sounds a little rough.

My older brother is the best guitar player I have ever seen in person, and I have been to a lot of concerts. Generally, he can listen to something once and play it for you.

Yeah, there are hundreds of guys that can really play that you never heard of

cl8ton 11-14-2008 11:19 PM

Eddie...nobody beets Eddie :)
I saw him live late last year during his solo...drugged out pretty bad :( him, not me!

89911 11-15-2008 02:07 AM

He's good, but as far as a song that makes me want to grab a guitar and find the notes, I'll take Slash's solo on "Sweet Child O Mine" anytime.:)

Oh Haha 11-15-2008 05:09 AM

I may be incorrect but I believe Paul was a student of my buddy Nick Nolan.

And yeah, he rocks and no, I can't play that on guitar. I could be his drummer, though. :)

Oh Haha 11-15-2008 05:13 AM

Wow, that bucket dude could probably really go crazy on a harp, huh?

Seriously, he is awesome except for the stupid bucket on is head. WTF???

sailchef 11-15-2008 06:27 AM

First there was Jimi, and then there was Eddie, everyone else is still learnin.

lm6y 11-15-2008 06:50 AM

Saw him live in '89 or '90. He and Billy Sheehan were awesome.

Can I play it? no. I do know 4 guys that can, inside of an hour.

svandamme 11-15-2008 07:48 AM

i just played that initial post thingie... nailed it first time around
no biggie

kstar 11-15-2008 08:01 AM

To see the finest guitar playing anywhere, one would need to travel on down the road to Hoogie-Boogie Land.

futuresoptions 11-15-2008 09:36 AM

Reminds me of the time I heard my neighbors sons jamming in the garage... I didn't have nothing to do so I asked them if I could come and jam with them. They said sure so I grabbed my gear and headed over. They had a few friends over, and I started with my versions of "She", "Rock you like a Hurricane" etc... I thought I was awesome until this one 16yr old kid asked if he could see my Les Paul... needless to say he shredded it... I packed my ***** up and headed home with my tail between my legs....

lm6y 11-15-2008 12:37 PM

That's funny Jared, I was listening to it about the time you posted it.

Paco DeLucia still freaks me out though. He reminds me of the bad guy in the old movie Phantasm.

Three of the most talented musicians on one stage.

Always nice to have a shout out to Yngwie! Eddie had the tapping, Yngwie had the sweeping arpegios (s), and when you put them together you get just about every skilled guitar player since, Paul Gilbert included...

I met Paul back in the 90's when he was doing tours of music stores in NorCal, very nice guy.

BTW~Steve Morse put on a clinic right after Paul played that silenced the room.

No doubt. Far more interesting that the guitar hero guy in the first post, but to each their own. I always wondered if a player like Paco has ever messed around with an electric...and what in the hell it would sound like if he did.
