Question? Are you a finance / accounting person or, say, a marketing person getting an MBA?

I fall into the latter category and absolutely prefer the TI. Very simple. Did everything I needed. Got my degree in 96 still use the same calculator today. I never did figure out the HP's. Never needed to with the TI.

Scooter, if yours is the 12C Anniv, let's talk.

Sorry, it is a regular 12C made in Malaysia. Serial #MY73402732.

12C, it's the standard. Only thing is the pause while it thinks...if that doesn't bother you.

I have an engineering background and have used a Ti graphing calc since they first became affordable. I have used a RPN HP scientific calc though but it's been many years.

Or, you could get this . . .

Firmware is just scientific fx so far, but you could be the one to add financial fx.

12C for me. Had mine since '86. Nothing better that I have found if you are in finance/banking.

Its too bad you can't just use a laptop and excel, the way you will when you get out of school. Trust me on this- I work as a financial analyst, and I NEVER use a financial calculator. Its all excel, all the time. I can write logic statements that boggle the mind :D

Word.

Contrary to what some have said, there IS math in MBA school. The advanced statistics course I took still makes my head hurt, 9 years later. And I have an EE undergrad. But all the complicated stuff is done in Excel.

19b. I like seeing my formula all laid out in front of me before hitting calc and being able to correct said forumla is a time saver. Couldn't you just use excel on a laptop? Program all the formulas in ahead of time ;)

Yeah, in school I took the most ridiculous math and statistical theory classes- used to be able to solve for wacky integrals and matrices and all types of nonsense. They should given me a laptop with excel and taught me some real-world stuff. Total waste of tuition money.

12C and carve your initials into the plate with your keys

I got a 12c for college graduation before starting at Arthur Andersen in 1985. Not long after my dog chewed on it for a bit and left some marks. It still works fine. Funny story; My manager on a big audit, Alaska Airlines, asked to borrow it. She had it for a while and came to give it back. I was a brand new green staffer. She was an experienced manager known for being a hard ass. She hands it over and says, sorry, I have a bad habit of chewing on things. I'll buy you a new one. I say, Kathy don't worry. You didn't do that, my dog did. The look on her face was priceless. Find an old 12c, it's a classic. For more complicated calculations and graphing use a PC.

I got my 12C just after finishing my MBA in 1997. Right now it lies on my desk besides the computer. I could not live without it, even though nowadays I just do simple operations. I just learnt it is a 1995 model built in Singapore.

While in engineering school I had a 28S (before the 48GX came out) but it self-destructed from use/abuse.

Once you get used to RPN you can't go back.
