Never sold here. They don't give us the good stuff :(

Matt- the UrS4s, like the 95s, those didn't use the 5-cylinder, did they?

If I ever bought an audi, it would have to be the 5-cylnder 20v turbo- the sounds it makes are pure sex.

UrS4 and UrS6 are the 5-cylinder 20V turbo, in all it's glory.:) 230 HP/260 Tq, 0-60 in about 6.2. I think a chip upgrade gets you up to almost 300 HP. Go all out with an RS2 turbo and manifold and you're pushing 400 HP. Reliably, on stock internals. They're pretty bulletproof engines.

The ABY engine (230bhp) in the S2/ UrS4 is the 5 cylinder 20V.. the RS2 version I think is a different code (ADU)...

A simple chip upgrade (like 'Superchips' for example, in period) is fairly crude and long term does the engine no favours. My ABY engine has 280 bhp with 300 lbsft..very strong but after 150k miles it was dead. The power was achieved by changing the upper end rather than across the rev range. It leads to unexpected engine wear.

That being said even at the 280/300 mark it really flies...around 5.5/5.8 0-60 is credible. If you go full RS2 internals, well, 380 is a good long term figure.

Currently you can get relatively inexpensive custom remaps for the engine. To get the best from them a full engine map which gives more power/ torque lower down and less ultimate boost pressure is the way forward...

Do not buy a Honda in South Florida unless:

1. You want it to be stolen, it will be stolen.

B. You can park it somewhere secure where it will eventually be stolen.

Its a buyers market right now, especially in Florida, you should be able to find a M3 for a really good price if your patient and keep looking.

What's your thought on something like this:

or

Hey Jim- where've you been?

I'm just trying to get something that will run so I can show up at autoX and get embarassed by you. I hear you on the theft issue, although our currently leased accord hasn't been stolen yet.

I've decided to let things cool off for awhile, because I don't want to rush this- its just that I need to get the next one before end of January when the current car goes away- otherwise, I can't drive out to see things.

Buy my AMG so I can get one of these:

Just a quick review gives me the feeling that the intended acceleration one will give you more chance for long life (and some happiness).

Increasing the 'power' of the waste gate spring means you runs more boost pressure at the top end..that might be great but in terms of 'drivability' its not that much use.

Mine is pretty tame below 3.5k and then gets a bit wild.. much like the RS2, albeit 30hp down...its OK in town below 30mph as its fast enough...its great on the freeway and on fast open roads...a bit less impressive in give and take traffic when you are around 40-50mph...you either stick in 6th and follow the flow or are down in 4th looking for opportunities to overtake....not a very relaxing sensation.

A decent remap would give you a smoother transition with a decent increase in top end... Based on my own experience I would aim to get a lower top end with more torque and power in the mid range..

Have you tried this website? http://www.s2forum.com/forum/.. there are a few guys over in the US there...

But overall the level of technical knowledge there approaches the tech boards here...

I'd never seen that forum, thanks. I've done a lot of reading on AudiWorld, but it seems to be hit/miss as far as answers go. Plus the UI is horrible.

I ask questions because I'm going to look at a '93 S4 today with 95k. Tires with 2k on them (on 17" aftermarket wheels), in the last 20k it's had a new MAF, timing belt, waterpump, brake pads (4), struts/shocks (4), and a comprehensive tune-up. Everything works, no mods. Black interior is absolutely mint. Exterior looks to have some swirls in the black paint and rock chips in the front bumper, and it needs a new lower center grille. Current needs are a brake pad sensor plug (broken wire) and a new washer reservoir.

MFAFF 11-19-2008 06:42 AM

Audiworlds is a very poor format....

The 93s are AAN engines, which might be 220bhp not the 230 of the ABY version.

They also made an auto version...which might be fun.

I'd get a compression and leakdown test done as a matter of course during the PPI...these engines do wear so its good to know where you stand.

Also check the brake 'bomb' (brake pressure accumulator).. its a pressure reservoir that maintains pressure for the brakes if the engines dies....these do fail over time thor aging of one of the interior membranes.. not a pianful repair but one that is not welcome when you have just acquired a car...

This place also has very thorough technical information...

http://www.s2central.net/main_frame.html

Seeing as the S2/S4 were very close mechanically there is lots of stuff that its good to know about on there... especially if you are doing some spannering yourself.
