Anyone hear from our brothers who live in the Brea / Diamond Bar / Corona areas?

Anybody local know the current status?

I know DavidI lives in Diamond Bar... hope he's alright.

Steve, all is well. The fire is on the south end of the city away from the population. The winds have died down, which is good news.

Diamond Bar doesn't get in the news too often so when it does I'm always reminded of you and Chad.

I'm in Yorba Linda, and was forced out yesterday, but I got back in early today. No damage.

My parents house was about 3 miles from the Anaheim Hills fires going on. The Cascade apts on the news that burned down is where my sister's friends lived and I used to drive them home all the time in high school. Pretty crazy to see all the smoke again. That being said, thank you to all the firefighters.

OK here in Aliso Viejo. Fires around 12+ miles away. All relatives Ok, but a cousin in Stevenson Ranch is a little worried since one fire just started up there tonight.

Sad how this stuff just comes in groups..... Sad that most seem to be suspicious.....

Having never been in this situation, I'm curious. How do they force you out? What if you're crazy and decide to stay? Can they really force you to go?

I'm sure that staying sort of forfeits your rights to any sort of rescue later and that your garden hose might not be any good if they can somehow route the water to just the fire hydrants.

Yes, that's true. They cannot "force" you out. They can order mandatory evacuation, where the cops come to your door and tell you to leave. But, you can of course stay if you so choose.

We chose not too. Perhaps, in our case "force" was not the right term to use. I was glad we left though. The smoke was getting terrible.

Mandatory evacuations are strongly urged requests. I have done them several times, but it is not like the police are going to arrest someone for not leaving. In some cases, people would rather stay and fight the fire themselves. I would never do this myself because a garden hose is no match for the enormous fires. The fire department has difficult even with air drops.

We had to bail on Saturday afternoon just because the smoke was so bad we couldn't stand it even inside with the AC going. By evening it had cleared somewhat.
Spent most of Sunday afternoon cleaning up the mess, filled 1/4 of a trash can with soot and had to clean the pool filter. We got off easy.

Saturday was ash fall-out and Sunday was just eerie. The winds went to zero and the smoke just hung at ground level. Looked like fog that never dissipated. Burning eyes and coughing, I used compressed air to move the filth out to the street. Mask and damp bandanna, I was dressed to rob the local 7-11 while I was at it.

We have a few rooms with wall A/C. Turned them to recirculate, and it seemed pretty nice indoors. Agree with you Sammy, we got off easy considering....

I went to the NHRA nationals on Sunday morning and it was hot and ugly. I bailed early and on the way home the 57 freeway was closed down so we took fullerton road, right through Whittier. There was some smoke going over the 57 but it was no where near bad enough to close the freeway.

Has anyone else noticed that they are really getting carried away with the freeway closures and evacuation orders?
It used to be intended to protect people from harm but it's morphed into much more than that.
Now they kick people out and close freeways down so that they can have an entire area to themselves and don't have to worry about people getting in the way. I can see that to a point but absolute power has corrupted absolutely and they are getting seriously carried away. There is a fine line between serving the public and injuring the public and they have crossed that line.
If there is a fire in part of a city, you don't kick everyone who lives in that city out of their homes for a week just to make it more convenient for you.
you don't deny them the right to return to their property just because you don't want to deal with them.
I wrote a letter to my state representatives about it, I'm curious to see how they reply.

It's hard to fight something like that when the publicity whore we call the mayor of LA is using the fires and evacuations as his personal grandstand. what a POS.
