servicing - getting the stamp !
on our cars...
how important is getting "the stamp" from a main dealer rather than a good indy re- resale price etc |
Not important.

Any and all records are a must for resale. Records from reputable shops are perfectly acceptable in lieu of a dealer. Some buyers might even be keen enough to prefer that.

I didn't notice you are in the UK. Maybe it's different there. But in the US, a dealer would not be the best place to take a 944. There would be very few mechanics there that have ever even worked on one, and probably none that have done any work on one in a half a decade or more.
Here in the US, for work on the older cars, the good independents (John Walkers, TRE, etc.) have a much better reputation than the dealerships. |
When I sold my SC, I handed the buyer a binder full of receipts, a maint. log book with my own handwriting and a CD with photos of me doing the work. What would you rather have? That or a dealer stamp for a 15k mile oil change or a brake flush every few years? I've never taken a car to a dealer and had it fixed right the first time. Dealer-only maint. would make me look for another car.
