Parts Cleaner
About a year ago (October, 2007) I bought parts cleaner from Farm & Fleet.
After consulting with some local friends on what they use, I filled it with kerosene. I came home for lunch today and found that my garage smelled like....kerosene. The bottom had corroded out of my parts cleaner and the kerosene was all over my garage floor. Is the problem the kerosene or a crappy parts cleaner?

Sounds like there was a layer of water under the kerosene possibly? Never heard of one rusting out. I have a cheap Harbor Freight type parts cleaner thats about 20 yrs old still solid as a rock.

Actually kerosene used to be less corrosive. New regulations have forced refineries to remove sulfur from the distillates which actualy makes them more corrosive.
Let me know if you need a safe, non-flamable PW solvent that is not water based. If its only <10 gl no problem, if more I might be able to get you a nice discount.

So the problem is most likely the kerosene and not the parts cleaner?
I'll have to see about getting a new parts cleaner first. I'll probably just get another 4 gallon benchtop model. I'll see if Farm & Fleet will accept a return.

I use clear mineral spirits mixed with ATF in mine. 15 gal spirits and about a gal of ATF
