More gun questions...
 

IIRC, some of you guys have Sig P239's. How do you like them? Any problems with them? I'm thinking about getting one in 9mm for my wife. No CCW in DC, so it's strictly for when we hit the range. Oh yeah, zombies...can't forget about the zombies. :) We share now, but it would be nice to each have something to shoot with. We currently have a P6 (P225). She likes lighter guns, as long as the recoil isn't overwhelming.

I have owned a Sig P239 in 9mm for a couple years now. I carry it (CPL) and shoot it at the range. I'm very happy with the pistol and I put Hogue grips on it as the stock grips didn't give me the "secure" feel I wanted. The P239 in 9mm is very easy and pleasant to shoot. It's accurate and my son (16 years old) handles it well. everyone who has fired it has commented that they really like the way it shoots. It's well-made and easy to clean. There are quite a few used 9's out there as many PD's went to .40cal and Sig refurbishes them and they are sold through dealers and gun shops. I bought mine from an Ann Arbor, MI cop for $500 with the case, 4 magazines and it only had one round fired through it. I would recommend the gun to anuone looking for a concealable 9mm that is also a target shooting pistol. Hoipe this helps!

I went and held the CZ 75B...really liked it. I also want my wife to be able to shoot it and it does have a slightly thinner grip...VERY comfortable.

Sig P239 Great weapon!! I really like mine.

I am not real impressed with the 9MM cartridge.

If it's for your wife then it's fine. It's a easy round to shoot. Have her hold one, they could be big for small hands.

The Winchester 9mm SXT Talon 147-grain has plenty of stopping power for zombies and home invaders. I researched it pretty thoroughly before buying a bunch.

If you just want a range gun, I'd go with a Buckmark or Ruger MK II/III.. 22lr is much cheaper to shoot... that said, SIGs are great. May also want to look at EAA Witness w/ steel frame. Clone of the CZ97b, get a centerfire caliber and then a factory conversion to another cf caliber (9mm, 38 super, 10mm, 40sw, 45acp) or 22lr. Cheap too - under $650 for gun and a conversion kit.

Yup, what he said - why not a good .22? You two could trade back and forth, and both be shooting all the time, for a fraction of what it would cost to feed two centerfires. Sounds like you already have a "house gun" that both of you are familiar with, so unless you want another, I would seriously consider the rimfire.

I have a Glock 17, a Glock 26, and a Ruger Mark II.

When I go to the range, I bring one of the Glocks (both are 9mm) and the Ruger. It takes me 20 minutes to shoot through 100 round in the Glock, and I spend the last 40 minutes shooting the Ruger.

I have a P239 in .40 S&W. It's probably the most accurate handgun I own, pure nail driver. I keep it in my car, but just CCW'ed it to a client meeting. Didn't want to make that first impression with an open-carry 1911.

I stole mine on SIGforum for $475 delivered, with night sights and under 300 rounds down the pipe.

Thanks guys. I'm leaning towards another 9mm (that's what my P6 is) so I keep the same ammo for both guns. The P6 is comfortable for my wife, so, as long as the P239 doesn't have significantly more recoil, she should find it acceptable for her use. She's not so keen on .357 Magnum and up. I'm also just thinking ahead...if DC ever lets us carry, the P239 would be the carry gun. One of the folks at DC Metro Police said they were working on allowing concealed carry (BTW no open carry here), but they are envisioning it only for people with a reported specific threat. But who knows where it'll end up. We had a homicide a half dozen blocks away earlier this year, and my wife and I jog when it's dark out. If DC's gov't. opens the door a crack and allows some concealed carry, I might want to try to get them to open it just a bit wider. After all, a few years ago, who would've thought we could ever legally own a handgun in DC? :)

If you end up getting one in 40, you can also put in a 357 sig barrel. And I still have magazines to fit it.

The heavier frame of the Sig P239 makes the recoil very manageable, almost trivial. The gun is rock-solid, well built and accurate. Did I mention that it's fun to shoot, too? I carry mine in a cross-draw IWB and I weigh 185lbs and I can easily conceal it. I carry it on the weekends and evenings and it's pleasant to carry.

Art, that's good to know. Whatever I end up doing, it'll stay at 9mm. Anything less is too wimpy for zombies, anything more and I risk my wife not wanting to shoot with it when we go to the range. :)
